First a 6.4 struck a while ago, and now a 6.8 has hit pretty close to same spot:

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Escalation of seismicity of that intensity (in the 6's) has previously shown to be dangerous, like what happened in Santa Cruz Islands. Meaning they could be foreshocks. Hope not, but I've been right before unfortunately- as well as wrong, too. No one knows, but lookout.

lol, usgs just knocked that down an entire whole magnitude to 5.8, which is total BS. That quake registered higher than the 6.4, and it's FURTHER AWAY from the station at Samoa! wtf... Weekend newbies I tell ya! Leave it up to ATS...We'll get er done!

emsc is holding at 6.5 and 6.8 for the moment.

ok, no prob, I can just talk to myself!
Thanks for the flags though peoples.

So now usgs has gone the entire way back UP nearly a full mag and settled on 6.7 for that second quake. Who'd you think you were kiddin? You can fool me once... Which is one reason I got the rig that I do... So you can't fool me twice!

I can't figure out whether emsc is just a parrot stats agency of the usgs or what... At first they were low, like 6.3, but then they matched usgs's initial 6.8 as soon as it went up. Then usgs went down to 5.8, but emsc held the 6.8. And 6.8 is still there now.

I estimated like 6.6 to 6.8 in my own mind after seeing it in spectro and waveform, and comparing it to the spectro and waveform of the original 6.4. It was more. 6.4 registered like 9e5 and second one measured 1.2e6. When the posted location came up as further away from station AFI, I knew we had a usgs weekend warrior on our hands. No way.

Get it together up there please.

I'm heeere! Lol!
But I've been multitasking & lurking!
Aaand looking in every so often & waiting to see what happens.
Doesn't feel like it's over yet!

I really wish there were some final depths too!
With these & Visokoi, 1 in Alaska, & New Mexico/Arizona...
USGS is a list of 10.0's, 5.0's a 100.0 & more 10.0's & 5.0's!
Boring & not very informative!
Maybe the lone newbie, that got the weekend shift, is overwhelmed???

Hey TA! I'll talk to you, I just don't have anything constructive to add.

Do you have an estimate of what the max for the "big" one there could be?

(BTW wasobservingquietly, could you start a welcome thread? I have always wanted to give you your first flag.)

Hehe its one of those areas where I don't even have a bad idea of how it all goes.. I appreciate it, have some friends down in that area of the world.

Off to check up on them.

Aaaw! Thanks Doodle!
It's a little late now...over 3 years! Lol!
Maybe if I had known about that at the time?
Or maybe not!

Starting a thread seems a little intimidating to me!!!
I only just figured out how to post a picture last night!

Maybe if I ever had something really important to share!
I just hope it's never something to do with a quake here in PA!!!
