So I was just reading this story on Mobilebeat and they say.

The Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association unveiled a “connected car” demo vehicle today in Windsor, Ontario, with built-in 4G, Wi-Fi, 360-degree proximity sensors, in-vehicle inductive mobile device charging, and gesture-based controls.

Hope you’re not a hand talker — you could find yourself suddenly in reverse.

Oh god, you know this isn't going to end well for anyone.

Take my wife for instance, she can't talk without waving her arms every-which-way more than once when she gets excited about a topic she's whapped me upside the head---her version of an exclamation point.

Now me I only ever make two hand gestures while driving---
one is the wave when I see a friend going the other way.
the second is obviously the middle finger salute which as gotten me into trouble more times than I can count.

The car also provides dynamic directions and re-routing in case of accidents

Now that's a good thing because I can see this tech causing a lot of accidents!

"No--- Don't turn left---I was just waving at the pretty girl!"

Imagine what an indecisive driver would look like behind the wheel?

"Honey look--- I think that driver is having a heart attack?"
"You sure, looks to me like he's practicing the limbo?"

That’s right, you could soon be paying a data subscription for your car. Oh joy.

You would also have to have different culture versions because different folks have different gestures.
like to us Americans making a 'V' with your fingers means peace--- but make that same gesture in the UK and you'll make a lot of people angry.

I like the one the Italians do where they flick their thumbnail off there teeth as a screw you thing. In this car it'll probably perform a sudden J turn if you do that!

Gesture Controlled Cars

What makes them think waving your arms wildly in front of a camera
is a better way of driving a car?

"So he dislocated his shoulders in the crash?"
"Oh no--- he did that by trying to merge with traffic!"

If they start selling theses things--- I am going to start taking the train to work!
Or maybe go into the tow truck business?

Until you break your elbow trying to back up without hitting the car you're supposed to tow.

All i can think about here is the guy with turrets syndrome that delivers pizzas.

This will not end well for anyone.

I dunno, if the driver flipping somebody off results in the car parking itself on the side of the road, it could be a win!

Okay, if they came up with a flying car...
I could live with flapping my arms for one of those.

I wouldn't mind a flying car. Just, it has to have good old fashioned hard controls.

Anything of this nature unnerves me when its computer controlled or drive/fly by wire.

Remember playing airplane as a kid---
holding out your arms and running around the back yard making zooming noises...

How much you want to bet that's what the crew was doing in that Asiana airliner right before it crashed.

"So what does the book say about lading this thing?"
"Hold on, hold on... I'm still trying to get to page 826---Oh here it is--- says we gotta flap our arms real fast!"

Not funny. Think about all those families that are clueless as to what happened to their loved ones.

Only hand gesture I feel appropriate for this brilliant idea of theirs would be * FACEPALM
