ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN are corporate... neither right nor left. MSNBC is a Democrat outfit. FOX is a beast of entirely different variety, I tend to agree with Russell Brand's take on FOX.

I really don't understand it, to be honest. I mean, I strongly dislike fox news as well. But I strongly dislike all mainstream media. The entire MSM is a big mechanism to form the context, assumptions, and norms on politics as well as many aspects of our lives. It seems that their purpose is to pre-define what is considered a 'normal' viewpoint, and then like magic almost everyone thinks that way. Not because that range of viewpoints really are the only legitimate ones, or that even really is the natural way for most people to think. But they create those norms, and then it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But people act like fox news SPECIFICALLY is so bad. Like anytime anyone sources fox news, people are like 'LOL yea like I'm gonna take anything fox news says seriously.' Why? I mean, it's just mainstream media...which means that there's some limit to their ability to just straight up make things up, just like any other MSM outlet, and it also means that they're going to distort thing to fit into the pre-defined narrative. Just like any other mainstream media outlet. It's slightly different, because they proclaim themselves to be 'conservative,' but that's just so that the people who consider themselves conservative have a mainstream media outlet which can condition their minds into the pre-formed mold of state-approved ideology.

My point is this. There is no reason to single out fox news specifically, as if they're just awful and all the other MSM outlets are just terrific. They're all awful. They're all trying to indoctrinate us into a pre-defined world-view, and thus they are 'bad' for free thinking. But again, this is what they all do...fox just overtly focuses on the other side of the pre-defined coin.

If ANYONE can say this is good reporting, they are THICK AND STUPID AND CONTROLLED AND ARE IDIOTS.
This Woman, some Judge Woman is scaring people and people fall for it. This is Fox News at it's best.
I am from Scotland, I have no reason to even respond here, but as a freelance journalist, I have to have an opinion:

Fox is a propaganda network, they consistently get greater than 50% of the facts wrong in deliberate pursuit is misinforming their viewers. That's why they are so hated.

People keep saying this like its a fact but nobody can show any proof that this is something only Fox News does.

Blame CNN, they started this trend of garbage "news" networks. Once everyone found out they could have their news given to them in an opinion format rather than a factual format, they fell in love. Fox News pretends to report the news through glorified talk show hosts, with fake tempers, and considerable disdain for anything and everything counter to their views. Same for MSNBC.

There isn't any news on either channel now, but people think that Gretta and O'Reily are "fair and balanced". It's like everyone lost their brains and now prefer to get their news from a bunch of idiots who learned the trade from Jerry Springer...

Haven't read the entire thread yet...
but:

In a 2003 lawsuit Fox News admitted that they lie and distort the news, yet now they complain that the White House refuses to treat them like a legitimate news outlet.

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

Back in December of 1996, Jane Akre and her husband, Steve Wilson, were hired by FOX as a part of the Fox “Investigators” team at WTVT in Tampa Bay, Florida. In 1997 the team began work on a story about bovine growth hormone (BGH), a controversial substance manufactured by Monsanto Corporation. The couple produced a four-part series revealing that there were many health risks related to BGH and that Florida supermarket chains did little to avoid selling milk from cows treated with the hormone, despite assuring customers otherwise.

According to Akre and Wilson, the station was initially very excited about the series. But within a week, Fox executives and their attorneys wanted the reporters to use statements from Monsanto representatives that the reporters knew were false and to make other revisions to the story that were in direct conflict with the facts. Fox editors then tried to force Akre and Wilson to continue to produce the distorted story. When they refused and threatened to report Fox's actions to the FCC, they were both fired.(Project Censored #12 1997)

Actually you will find that the majority of FOX watchers are senor citizens. You know the people that can't figure out how to use the channel changer. Over 50% of the people that watches FOX are 68 and older. FOX is the retirement community of MSM.

Additional star for you.

Yes, FOX NEWS has destroyed several of my aunts and uncles, my brother, and many others.
It's sickening.

They make ALOT of money doing it because they are the MASTERS...
They are so good at it that the liberal media is now copying their business model,.. only doing it with a Progressive/Socialist angle...

Got them addicted, and they refuse now to look at ANY other news outlets.
Intelligent, previously balanced people, now spewing Beck (FOX flunkie), Limbaugh, Hannity.....

FOX is crap.

Easy. Liberals hate Fox News because, unlike CNN and MSNBC, they don't toe the liberal party line, don't believe Obama is God, and are willing to talk about things like Benghazi and the many other liberal screw-ups.

Fox News is overt conservative agitprop. Like AM radio conservative punditry but on cable TV.

Its numerous lies and distortions are well documented. I need not describe them here.

For many elderly (Fox News viewership averages around age 68) it appears to be robbing them of joy in their final years. Many seniors I know cling to the channel raging at whatever they happen to be told by Fox News talking heads. Most of it being white resentment against poorer minorities.

The only positive being that young people don't appear to be buying into Fox News hate and have completely tuned it out. I'm hoping that when the Baby Boomer generation finally dies out Fox News goes with them.

The Fox News audience skews more ideological than that of its two main competitors. Fully, 60% of Fox News viewers describe themselves as conservative, compared with 23% who say they are moderate and 10% who are liberal, according to a 2012 survey by the Pew Research Center. By contrast, the ideological makeup of CNN viewers (32% conservative, 30% moderate, 30% liberal) and MSNBC viewers (32% conservative, 23% moderate, 36% liberal) is far more mixed.

Will this report by the Pew Research folks help you understand?

There are a few reasons why, but the main reason is that they are the top dog when it comes to ratings in almost everything. People are haters, and it is very popular to hate Fox.

Now that being said, I very much dislike Fox news, but for completely different reasons. Main one being that they are a part of the MSM which fails to report any real news to the general public.

They are no worse than CNN or MSNBC. They just go against a lot of what is currently popular with young liberals and hosts like Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert(who are hilarious) but not always telling the whole truth.

No, smart guy. They are "destroyed" because they WON'T LISTEN TO ANYTHING ELSE, and BELIEVE everything they hear on there.
They don't have to listen to (or agree with) me (and I've given up arguing, because they won't) - but they DO need to listen to the other side.

I've suggested it - "Just for one week, look at other news outlets". Nogo. Nope! They won't. Period.

Intelligent, well-educated people. Capable of critical thinking. But they WILL NOT look at other sources. Brainwashed. Like the bumper sticker on my car: FOX NEWS Brainwash, Rinse, and Spin.

At least I have the audacity/gumption to read ALL of the various views on the media.
Watch Jon Stewart. You might learn something, even if you "don't agree with" him.

Too funny indeed

I've gotta agree with this. CNN started it when they were the Clinton News Network. Fox and MSNBC ended up doing the same thing. Nowadays, CNN is probably the most balanced of the three. Fox absolutely leans right. MSNBC is so far left that even the democrats admit it's crap. And then there is CNN which is slowly improving from it's Clinton News Network years.

And then there is CNN

Yes, I source CNN for my daily news fix, as well as my local McClatchy outlet - our newspaper. Those, and NPR. (Then, generally, I go to BBC, and from there, smaller news sites from "developing countries". I honestly try to read ALL SIDES. Huffington Post is the most 'liberal' of them all....)

It was quite a gruelling exercise, though, trying to give FOX an ear - I kept throwing up in my mouth a little.
