Could you tell if the engines were on top or below the wings or body. Any color visible from the flame of the engines like a dull yellowish color?

Interesting sighting for sure. Could be a few things.

it appeared as though the engines were above the wing/fuselage, couldnt see an engine flame, but the exhaust trail was a little different, seemed to be a little ,"smokier" than a usual aircraft contrail.

You sure it was flying too high to be heard? Did it make any sound?

Could you post a sketch of it? Aprox. location and direction?

Sammamishman,

this is as close as i can get with the shape
and it looked as though the engines were on top of the wings/fuselage

over central cal about 2pmish headed from n ne to s sw
and the only things in that direction are Lemoore NAS about 40 miles away or vandenburg

My.. that reminds me of a SABRE from wing commander in shape. If i remember correctly that is. maybe RAPIER but its similiar to one of em.

Hey what direction was she heading? North like say towards Beale or south like say towards Edwards. Out bound? In bound?

I miss our girl she's been out partying hoping she's come home for some rest.

Bassplyr,
It made no noise as it passed, so given its apparent size and speed I would say she was flying pretty high.

Like I said in my previous post it was headed sw, towards Vandenberg, the only AF facility in that direction.

You may have been one of the lucky few to spot an LRS-b before the official release hopefully next year.

Next time, keep a camera ready.

Vandenberg? Interesting. Didn't expect that.

When you say it was big and high like how big and how high you think? Like fighter jet sized, maybe twice as big as a fighter jet. like the size of a 737 or a little bigger. jumbo jet sized like a 747 or C5?

Height wise. commercial airline height. Higher. slightly lower?

Just trying to picture all of what you saw in my head.

Maybe the Prompt strike package?

I say this bird is a cult of personalities and a master of more than one trade.

I was tig welding at the time (with high frequency on), so I left my phone on my desk, and it was 200 yards away.

Towards Vandenberg doesn't mean TO Vandenberg.

If you saw it once there is a chance it may be back that way again.

I figure going out bound again. Cause Vandenberg is Space Command. Rockets and "other things" Probably heading from beale to someplace sunny far, far away. Guess our girl is gone again. The price we pay for falling for fast women. In this case really fast.

It was much bigger than a fighter, and it was high enough that you could not hear it, that's how I know it was much bigger than a fighter. We get F16s F18s and F15s flying over a lot , so its apparent size combined with the lack of noise is a clue as to its actual size. As far as altitude goes I don't think it was at a commercial flight level , if it was it would be truly huge, so some what lower than that, but high enough not to be heard as it passed.

Interesting. I could see a gap that would need filling in between hypersonic and sub sonic for certain types of tactical missions.

Maybe this ones not out of Beale after all.
