Read posts on page 184.

Got to wondering:

If two aircraft could “hook up” to refuel (there’s even talk about using drones to do this now),

Could two aircraft similarly hook up to recover one of them for “concealed exfiltration”?

A smaller-scale take on the “flying aircraft carrier” concept.

Interesting light that is bright enough to be seen miles away, but doesn't light up any of the ground objects or hills in the background.

I generally just lurk in this thread, but your thought bubble is really interesting to consider...good stuff*.

*Haven't heard of the "flying aircraft carrier" concept.

And its probably the source of the name for DARPA's Gremlins program.

With any luck it'll work better than the last time. At least this time it can't try to kill its pilot.

Well, DARPA at least took the pilot out of the equation: the Gremlins being UAVs and all...

Pretty clearly it's after effects laid over a still photo with fake camera shake / zoom and a voice added in post

I remember reading this thread as it went down and loving it!
This type of info and thread is what has made ATS stellar in my opinion.
I have spent this weekend reading it again and reminiscing.
To anyone who hasn’t read it, It’s totally well worth your time.
It gets real juicy a few pages in.

Hello all... I've been reading this forum for 4-5 years now and finally decided to share a sighting I had a few years back. I was living in Kill Devil Hills at the time. Several of my friends and family had odd, unexplainable sightings there over the years, but I can only relate the one I had. I don't recall the exact date, but it was late August, early Sept 2015.

I was out having a cigarette about 3-5AM, laying in a lounge chair and watching for satellites. The sky was perfectly clear and there was no moon that I recall. I was facing away from the house looking straight up at the sky when 3 "green stars" came over the house into my field of view from the south heading north. They were at a very high altitude and appeared to be satellites at first, except quite a bit faster. And they were a steady green color, almost identical to the green color of the "dark theme" thread titles on this forum. I first saw them directly overhead at a 90 degree elevation and had them in view until they disappeared behind the houses across the street, about a 20-ish degree elevation. They covered that distance in approximately 5-6 seconds. Right before they went out of view, one of them made an abrupt left turn and headed due west. I lost sight of all 3 of them about the same time behind the houses across the street.

At this point, that's all the detail I remember. One thing I did find interesting... A few days after it happened, I compared their flight path to a map and it was an exact heading for Patuxent NAS. I've heard it mentioned around here before that Patuxent is something of an east coast "Area 51", for lack of a better way to put it. Anyway, I've been following this thread for a long time and just thought I'd share what I saw.

Read this thread 2 times through over the last several months. So awesome.

Anything interesting ever fly over southwest Missouri/Springfield area? I see B2s a couple times a month during the day, sometimes 3 at a time, from Whitman but that’s about it.

Phantom Works has an RCS range, and airfield they occasionally fly from in the St Louis area, as well as their primary field. They'll work remote areas where there's less traffic in that area.

I posted this in another thread, but after I started reading this thread, it looks like I should have posted here. If it is wrong to post the same thing in multiple threads someone please let me know.......

I have read many of the aircraft threads on the forum. Since many of the forum members seem to be quite knowledgeable on aircraft subjects, I wanted to share this. I have been observing and monitoring military and civilian aircraft for many years, however I am only an amateur.

I have made a couple of observations recently and would like to hear some opinions. One happened last October and the second one last Friday. These observations were both made at a location that is approximately 25 miles northeast of Louisville KY.

The first time was last October the 8th (2018). The time would have been around 19:00 to 19:15. The sun was setting and the sky was clear with some clouds on the horizon. I was looking around the sky when I spotted what looked like a satellite going nearly straight away from me towards the west. Its position was about 50 to 55 degrees up from horizon. It appeared to be silver colored or some other very smooth finish and was reflecting the sunlight. I realized it was some type of aircraft when it created a few short sections of contrail. The aircraft must have been passing in and out of areas suitable for contrail formation. I have never observed such a quick starting and stopping of contrails. It was moving much faster than any other aircraft I have ever observed and it faded from view due to distance.

The second observation was last Friday June 21st 2019 at about 11:48. I was out in a small garage with a co-worker when we heard a double boom. My co-worker, who is a Marine veteran, commented that it was a sonic boom and I agreed. We both stepped out of the back of the garage, which is on the same property where I had made the October observation, and scanned the sky. He spotted the craft within a few seconds and commented that it was moving very fast. This craft was traveling from north to south following a path that was about 70 to 75 degrees up from horizon at what appeared to be higher than normal altitude air traffic for the area which are normally flying above 30,000’ on these air routes. It also was like the October observation, in that it appeared to be silver or smooth finish and was reflecting the sunlight. I would say possibly the same aircraft or something similar with a nearly the same speed. It disappeared from sight in approximately 20 seconds.

Luckily with the second observation we also saw two commercial passenger aircraft that were moving south to north and one traveling west to east. The most noticeable part of this observation was the speed difference between the fast mover and the airliners. We talked about it and agreed that the fast mover was traveling at least 3 to 4 times faster than the airliners. The fast mover also appeared to be smaller than the airliners.
