"I think I get why plasma would be used on the exterior of the aircraft but don't know enough about why it would be used in the engines other than flow control. Does anybody have any theories??"

By the way...www.eurekalert.org...

In very fast moving aircraft, a problem is slowing the incoming air to a degree that it can be handled in a turbine efficiently.

There are some proposed designs which charge-up (plasmify) the air on the intake, and take out kinetic energy and turn it into electrical current. This current is piped, by presumably big fat wires to the rear of the engine, where it is used to re-accelerate the exhaust: an electromagnetic afterburner.

Or more prosaicaly, more like a hybrid car which brakes incoming air electrically, and then drives it out the back.

By changing electrical properties, you can change aerodynamic properties to make the engine work more effectively and efficiently over a wide range of speeds, altitudes, and desired thrust levels.

Internally, and this is somewhat separate, but related, there are proposals for the turbine stages themselves to be electromagnetically rotated and driven, literally like rotors in a regular electric motor, instead of being connected mechanically with a fixed shaft. This means that they may rotate at different speeds and be better optimized thermodynamically for the best efficiency and power, and make up for the loss of efficiency in the electrical/mechanical conversion chain.

I've heard some interesting things that won't be repeated in public.

Just as a matter of physics and not hearing things, the speed of sound can be modified in a plasma (and there would be many forms of 'sound' in a complex plasma vs a simple fluid)

Then, in theory exists the possibility of having a shockless turbo machinery using that principle...

The Black doritos use it all over. the B-2 uses it on its leading edges an d other classified places.

Welcome to the Asylum.

Those that know, either have a Non Disclosure Agreement preventing them from talking, with very real consequences if they do, or got their information from people that are under one. They themselves aren't, but the people that actually know are very careful not to post information that could have consequences for those people.

There are several agencies that occasionally browse our little corner of madness. Agencies that it's better to not have a phone call with. We know this for a fact, so tread carefully.

With the exception of the players, those are the questions everyone is trying to answer.

When did she start flying?

Who made her?

Thanks again for answering my newbie questions.

Best guess: green lady is a global reconnaissance aircraft to fulfill similar role as SR-71 and U-2. It might have been developed in the 90's and is likely to be operational now. It is not known who would operate it, the natural candidates are Air Force, CIA and NRO. There were skyquakes in the early-mid 1990's over Southern California heading to Edwards Air Force Base which were tracked to fast moving aircraft which were not disclosed to the public. This may or may not be a development craft for the project, I don't know.

The numbers are likely to be very low, like less than 10. The name comes from a noticable green exhaust, which is likely to be either the result of special boron-infused high-energy fuels (expensive & dangerous) or some electromagnetic plasma effect.

Nobody knows what it looks like, but is probably fairly large based on physics and mission requirements, sort of cross between a SR-71 and XB-70.

It is sort of assumed that there is newer generation being developed with hints of very high-altitude 'atmospheric bouncers' that don't have the green tail (boron fuel is a bug, not a feature) but may have a yellow dull glow but nobody really talks about these at all.

So who else here is considered an "Industry Insider"
and who else here is considered "in the know" if
they are not an insider?

I'm just trying to get my bearings because
I see so many of you here on a lot of forums
and areas of personal interest. I'm in my
early twenties and still in college so I'm
not that knowledgeable about who is who
and which toes not to tread upon.

Is this forum just about the Green Lady
or can we talk about unknown helicopters too?

Thanks for your time.

Sorry whats a palmdale?
Is this a new aircraft?
And what are black doritos?

Palmdale is home to Skunk Works and many black projects.

The forum is for anything Aviation related.

A general rule of thumb. Those who claim to be insiders, generally aren't. If they post a lot of long winded responses and do so frequently, be very skeptical.
Most around here are just hobbiests, some better at jig saw puzzles than others.

Thank you for the info.
Are there other places that are black project Skunk Works?
ok, I get it palmdale is a place in California but my google maps
won't show it. All I see is a mushy blob of gray and white.
Is it a secret underground base we're not supposed to look at?
Who owns it?

It belongs to the Air Force. Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, and NASA are all there. Nothing underground.

Is it like Area 51? Are civilians allowed to see it?
It seems to be blocked out to a google maps gray
and white blob on the wifi network at my school
of Mount Royal University.

How wonderful.

The Aircraft Projects forum has become exceedingly more paranoid than the Aliens and UFOs forum.

As it should be.

Welcome back to the fold, fellows.

I'm confused. Is there a conspiracy theory about this Green Lady aircraft?
Did it have a role in a major world event or in the recent election?
Why did I not hear about it in the news anywhere? Do the alien
and ufo posters suppress this section?
