Oh we are talking about four or five different craft here. The one my friend saw is a high speed high altitude air breather.

It's kind of a generic term anymore with the space plane designs, as well as the rumors of an SSTO in the works. There was also at one time a rumor of a solid fuel/LOX fueled design floating around.

A number of things. A couple missile designs have tested there, as well as some manned platforms.

Before it disappeared Top Cover was tested out there. An ATS member happened to be in the area and saw it go by.

Zap im curious. Since we have the tech for such craft that can move apparently faster than mach 5 an ddo it silently. why are they still developing hypersonic aircraft when its already out dated? are they holding back the "good" wunder weapons until they absolutly want to outright crush the russians and the chinese in WW3?

With the level of tech here it would seem that ICBMs would be rendered useless against the west. WHich makes me wonder. Remember the FEL laser system? I remember a DARPA scientist saying that it could be scaled up to literally able to burn entire cities to cinders in seconds. Do you think thats why the russians and chinese left with faces whiter than ghost when they visited NORAD that one time?

One, it keeps people employed. You might need a few hundred to build some of these. The F-35 program employees something like 44,000.

Two, and more importantly, would you blow your house up because of a bug in one room? Using some of these is the equivalent of using an FAE on your house for a cockroach in the bathroom.

Thanks! Interesting Pic. A little off topic here but, I wonder if Boeing and it's new fluidic thrust vectoring and aileron less flight control have anything to do with quiet boom technology too. Plasmas n all. Might be one of the reasons they are "hot" this season.
