President Obama wants $1.1 billion for his "Now Is the Time" gun control initiative, but Jesse Ventura thinks the government needs to exercise some gun control on themselves before they try to infringe upon the Second Amendment.

As always Jesse Ventura is spot on.
Let's deal with the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.
IMHO the main cause of the problem is NOT guns or the second amendment but rather the politicians in Washington.

I guess they figure now is the time since the world is going up in flames. Kick em while they are down.

They suck ass.

But that's only part of the problem. The real threat is the effect the Feds are having on the Local Police.

Unfortunately, the Herd only sees what they are shown, and thinking outside the box is too troubling.

As a fellow who comes from a nation in which I have no right to carry my preferred weapon of defence, a sword, I find the current trend toward heavy controls on the second amendment in the US very sad indeed. Take it from me, those of you who have guns, who are allowed to go about armed for your personal defence, until you loose the rights you have, you will never know how lucky you have been to have them at all.

Your government will use the insane acts of a few, to justify denuding the many of their rights. Every time this comes up, the constitution as a whole gets weaker in the eyes of the people, and becomes a bigger target for further and further alteration.

American members might not hear this very often from a British gentleman, but I happen to think that the constitution of the United States of America is one of the greatest documents ever scribed, and contains some of the most inspired political mechanisms ever devised. To allow amendment after amendment to be muddied up, neutered, and molested, only makes it easier for the same thing to happen to whatever amendments remain unmolested.

If you allow your government to go ahead and take your rights from you, they WILL go for your free speech next, and complete the tyranny.

Please defend your rights! Again, you have no idea how lucky you are to have the right to bare arms, and that the right to do so will not, at the moment, be infringed.

We already have gun control laws. The law abiding citizens aren't the problem, but we all know that. Now is the time to concentrate on other problems that in my eyes have a higher priority, such as our country's vets that need to put at the top of the list, rather than somewhere at the bottom. Making new laws for gun control doesn't interest me in the least right now. Seems pointless in my opinion.

Honestly people... Just do not let it get to that stage across the pond. If you have to write ten thousand letters, eight thousand emails, if you have to march about in appalling weather with placards, just do it, because in my country, even if you have no criminal record, you cannot carry items for self defence that are worth a crap.

I may prefer a blade over a gun personally, because I know the limits of a blade much better than I do the limits of a bullet, but the fact remains that even in this I am utterly buggered with regard to the law here. A Swiss Army knife, might as well be a bag of marshmallows for all the use it would be against a determined nutter. The same cannot be said for a long dirk or a short sword.

I would hope you know by now, that the only thing I dislike about the United States of America, is its government, and it's behaviour. The only thing other than the cost, that stops me visiting, is that when you look like me, and the TSA exists, that means you get the glove, where a glove ought not be!

It gets even better than that. Unless I am heading to, or from a job (I am a locksmith) I cannot even carry a tool of any kind, because that is tantamount to an offence of "going prepared" which means that under the law, it is assumed that I could have no legitimate purpose to carry any item from my tool case, that the only purpose of carrying a tool which could be used to either break into someone's home, or hurt someone, is to do one or both of those things.

So I cannot even protect myself with items from my tool case. Which is a shame, because I have one of these...



It's great for the garden of course, and if I carry it on my way to my sisters, I have to be careful to wrap it up tight in all manner of things so that the police do not decide that it is worth talking to me about. I have no rights essentially.

With the economics condition in the US, he wants to spend that on gun control. Crazy. Does he owe some marketing firm a really big favor?

Wow man that is nuts for me to even begin to fathom. Knives and swords of all types, crossbows, lock picking kits, car slim jims, jiggle keys, pepper spray, tasers, stun guns, solid and collapsing batons are all sold here (in most states anyway). Even kids have access to all of them if they go to a flea market.
I may be wrong but it looks like a tool we call a sap axe but with a short handle. That would totally ok to carry on your hip here wouldn't raise an eyebrow.
By the way locksmith sounds like a kind of interesting job.

That is something I did not know, TrueBrit. You cannot even carry a Swiss Army knife? Or a Leatherman, the little gadget that is composed of little gadgets like a file, a can opener, an itsy bitsy knife, etc? I gave each of my sons a Leatherman when they were kids and they took gun safety training in my home state when they were eleven years old and went deer hunting when they were twelve. Obviously, I know that you cannot have guns but the knives?? So, sorry.

I wonder how much of that money came from the major phamaceutical corporations to keep the government from studying the effect of chemical treatments for non-chemical emotional and mental maladies? One of these days the spree-killer drugs are going to come under the scrutiny they deserve and all hell is going to break loose in the US.

I love my job. I specialise in non destructive entry methods, and the look on peoples faces when it takes me longer to take out and assemble my tools, than it does to open the door.... You cannot beat it!

I work for a family business so I get paid in table scraps, but the work is challenging, and rewarding on the mental and emotional levels so I could not be happier. It does mean I still live with my mother though. I take the rough with the smooth lol!

But seriously. My nation is utterly cack handed about these things. See, I KNOW, that there are people in my town who go about armed, and because they care not one whit for the law, that places me at a disadvantage. Luckily, my time in high school taught me more about unarmed defence of the self, than it did any of the actual curriculum being allegedly taught there, so I am used to it to a degree.

But it still worries me, that when the faeces really hits the rotary airflow regulator, I will be hampered by an inability to just draw steel and deal with things in the manner to which my ancestors were accustomed. In my view, a person in the right place when evil is about to be done, can save lives and prevent tragedy. If the only people who can fight off an armed assault, are the armed response police (whose nearest station is twenty minutes away at minimum) then that leaves everyone at the mercy of the scum.

What use is that?

That's right your majesty.

We do have a notional right to keep a gun, but the checks and balances are huge, and the types of gun allowed are strange, and the cost of gun safes is obscene because ownership of firearms has now been reduced to the point where it's only very rich folk or farmers who tend to have them. No one, as far as I am aware, outside of law enforcement and the intelligence service, are allowed to carry arms around in public, with the obvious exception of soldiers on guard, like at Buckingham Palace and the like.

Other than that, the only people walking around capable of defending themselves effectively are the police, and the criminals. I think some kinds of air rifle are allowed... But really?
