Sunni militants take control of Iraq-Syria border point

AFP – Sunni militants led by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant took control of an Iraq-Syria border crossing after Syrian rebels withdrew overnight, security officers and witnesses said.

The sources said insurgents took control of the Al-Qaim border crossing, one of three official border points between Iraq and Syria, after gunmen linked to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front left.

More control for ISIS, which is good for DC if they want to get NATO and friends involved. Interesting that the FSA and Al Nursa didn't put up much of a fight. They fled just like the Iraq military fled.

Extremists Attack Iraq’s Biggest Oil Refinery

ISIS’ path of destruction drains Iraq and Syria’s water supplies

The gates continue to open for them but the Shiites are fighting back in Iraq.

Sadr followers march in Iraq as Sunni militants capture two towns

Why is everyone so afraid to fight these guys or is there a bigger conspiracy afoot?

Swills, I got a question…

some smarter people than I on here have surmised that this "cross border" thing is going to be used, is being used to lend causation sympathy to a back door way of bombing targets in Syria (read that Assad targets in Syria). I have been away and wanted to know what you or anyone thinks about that idea.

Byt the way, interesting photo in the link you provided. You can click on and zoom it…

Anything is possible so don't rule anything out. World leaders never let a good crisis go to waste while they endorse the Problem Reaction Solution method.

I know our government is still somewhere up there in the clouds chanting "Assad must go". Wouldn't a nice little insurgency from Syria into Iraq provide just the excuse to make it so?

This is just what DC wants. For now they'll stay out, officially, but their plans for ME will be going forward soon enough.

Military intervention is just a day away. They've allowed these terrorists to murder Iraqis in thousands upon thousands for years now and with all the recent advancements of ISIS and friends it's only a matter of time before the west and friends move in to continue their campaign of military fail.

They don't give a poop about lives or freedom, they want whatever it is that they want.

you dont have to be Smart to see this scenario unfolding , soon the public wants intervention , would the international powers of politics really allow this organisation to grab such amount of territory just because they dont know what to do about the problem.

A lot of the Fighters in Syria have double passports from many Western countries , if this problem doesn't get solved these people will become terrorist cells in western countries.

Nobody in the UN security counsel will vote against intervention towards this organisation , time is on the side of isis because if they grow bigger nobody will be able to ignore the problem.

Well they are headed for Baghdad… whats there besides a great big US embassy?

What they want is control of their country back. Back from dominance under the west.

The yahoos think its pretty big already. Almost a million people in Iraq have been displaced by this "movement" so far.

Yahoos

Pointing the finger at Syria is cheap, huh? Why would the FSA come cross to free Iraq when they can't free Syria? Nothings changed with the overall plan to dominate ME just another way of continuing despite all the delays?

Two pieces that might help understand what and why it's happening . First Mike Whitney's piece Splitting Up Iraq ,It's all for Israel . www.informationclearinghouse.info...

"“It is no longer plausible to argue that ISIS was a result of unintentional screw ups by the US. It is a clear part of a US strategy to break up the Iran-Iraq-Syria-Hezbollah alliance. Now that strategy may prove to be a total failure and end up backfiring, but make no mistake, ISIS IS the strategy.” -Lysander, Comments line, Moon of Alabama
“US imperialism has been the principal instigator of sectarianism in the region, from its divide-and-conquer strategy in the war and occupation in Iraq, to the fomenting of sectarian civil war to topple Assad in Syria. Its cynical support for Sunni Islamist insurgents in Syria, while backing a Shiite sectarian regime across the border in Iraq to suppress these very same forces, has brought the entire Middle East to what a United Nations panel on Syria warned Tuesday was the “cusp of a regional war.” – Bill Van Auken, Obama orders nearly 300 US troops to Iraq, World Socialist Web Site

Let cut to the chase: Barack Obama is blackmailing Nouri al-Maliki by withholding military support until the Iraqi Prime Minister agrees to step down. In other words, we are mid-stream in another regime change operation authored by Washington. What’s different about this operation, is the fact that Obama is using a small army of jihadi terrorists –who have swept to within 50 miles of Baghdad–to hold the gun to Mr. al Maliki’s head. Not surprisingly, al Maliki has refused to cooperate which means the increasingly-tense situation could explode into a civil war. Here’s the scoop from the Guardian in an article aptly titled “Iraq’s Maliki: I won’t quit as condition of US strikes against Isis militants”:

Next is Pepe Escobars latest www.atimes.com...

"Since late last year, according to US government newspeak, the "good terrorists" in Syria are the al-Qaeda spinoff gang of Jabhat al-Nusra and (disgraced) Prince Bandar bin Sultan, aka Bandar Bush, the Islamic Front (essentially a Jabhat al-Nusra multiple outlet). And yet both Jabhat and ISIS had pledged allegiance to Ayman "the doctor" al-Zawahiri, the perennial gift that keeps on giving al-Qaeda capo.

That still leaves the question of what Men in Black ISIS, the catwalk-conscious beheading stormtroopers for a basket of hardcore tribal Sunnis and Ba'ath party "remnants" (remember Rummy in 2003?) are really up to.

We interrupt this desert catwalk to announce they will NOT invade Baghdad. On the other hand, they are busy accelerating the balkanization - and eventual partition - of both Syria and Iraq. They are NOT a CIA brainchild (how come Langley never thought about it?); they are in fact the bastard children of (disgraced) Bandar Bush's credit card largesse.

The fact that ISIS is NOT directly in Langley's payroll does not imply their strategic agenda essentially differs from that of the Empire of Chaos. The Obama administration may be sending a few marines to protect the swimming pools of the largest, Vatican-sized embassy on Planet Earth, plus a few "military advisers" to "retrain" the dissolving Iraqi Army. But that's a drop of Coke Zero in the Western Iraqi desert. There's no evidence Obama is about to authorize "kinetic support" against ISIS, even though Baghdad has already green-lighted it. "

I don't think Bagdad will be a part of the ISIS campaine Whitneys piece looks at it from the long term plan of a Iraq being divided up along sectarian lines .Washington wants to install someone who will play this out ,which Malaki is not agreeing to . Syria is a big question mark in the long haul but seems to be set aside until they can finalize this last move .

I think because the FSA doesnt really think in terms of borders , Iraq has proven an easy grab for Isis / other terrorists organisations.

en.wikipedia.org...

With fallujah they have a staging area away from their main front in Syria or to launch other campaigns , or set up a military infrastructure , or use as recruitment locations.

Thanks for that in depth analysis. I value your input here on this site.

We interrupt this desert catwalk to announce they will NOT invade Baghdad.

That is the litmus test. Why dispatch a carrier task force and cruise missile laden escorts to the Persian gulf if there is nothing to worry about? In my mind the west is the problem and the current blowback heading south will land somewhere. Defense analysts' seem to have trouble identifying ISIS targets from civilians in Iraq. This will be coming to a head. And we will be kept in the dark.

Can't escape this itching feeling though at the base of my neck. The fiasco to come in Iraq may be a great big repeat of Benghazi.

Currently, elements of ISIS have been spotted less than 50 km from Baghdad?

You might like to read this report also as it involves Russia . www.globalresearch.ca...

US which tacitly supports Iran intervention in the region, but may have suddenly cooled in its support of Maliki despite sending naval and troop forces in the country after partially evacuating its embassy
Saudi Arabia which wants to remain friendly with the US but is antagonistic to the Iraq regime, is potentially aiding the ISIS forces, and clearly refuses to allow Iran entrance in Iraq
Iran, which has suddenly become America’s best friend in the region, which is willing to enter Iraq and protect its holy sites
Syria, whose president is sitting back amused at last year’s failed campaign by the US to remove him from power, and whose army is at a stalemate with the local US-armed and funded rebels
Qatar, which is supporting the Syrian rebels, but so far has not made its stance clear on Iraq. Like Saudi, it too may be indirectly backing ISIS
Jordan, which is a close friend the US, and which may have hosted ISIS in a secret base on its territory with the US instructing the jihadist group according to an unconfirmed report
Turkey, which is on constant alert to Kurdish escalation across the border, the same Kurds which now have far more leverage courtesy of ISIS crushing the Iraq army in the north and handing over Kurds access to oil fields in the north.
And of course Russia: because while Putin clearly benefits from rising crude prices, it is his Lukoil that is developing (and investing vast amounts of money in) the vast Iraqi West Qurna-2 oil field. It is not clear how he would feel about it falling into ISIS hands.

wait....so this is all a grand plan to help Israel , by backing a massive group of heavily armed and well funded militants thats are more extremist and violent then anyone in Iran itself......to take over Iraq.......this makes absolutely NO sense.....

Most people could see Iran coming to help Iraq effectively strengthening that relationship, you can tell me that intelligence people couldnt see that coming......

people will spin anything to blame on Israel.......

Apparently you cant just be a whackado extremist muslim hell bent on a caliphate or killing people, w out it being Israels fault......

I swear people are getting more stupid......(im not directing this at you The2 just in general)
