Did volcanic eruptions wipe out life on Mars?

Anyone ever thought about where the water level has been?

I've been thinking theres a good indicator where the olympus lava spew just stops, like it hits water and the started to solidify. Haven't googled this, but what would mars look like with water level at that height

I don't know what Mars would have looked like with that much water but this is what it would have looked like a few billion years ago.

Except there most probably wouldn't be anything green on the surface (like grass and trees). Mars would have been habitable for too short a time for plants to evolve. On Earth, it took simple single-celled organisms several billions of years to evolve into multicellar organisms, and a few billion years more for plants to evolve.
