When we consider, anything observed, it might be beneficial to have some insight into what reality really is. In fact consider the" Brain in a jar" concept. Which is that a living brain placed in a jar of nutrient solution, which is wired up to a computer who's input into the neurons is exactly the same as the input it receives when it was in the skull of a living human. The brain would have no idea it was in reality in a jar, as it would be experiencing reality in just the same way as it always did, the way we do now. The brain could think it was going down to the airport and get on a plane, and go for a nice holiday in the Bahamas etc. It would think it had travelled time and space. But the reality would be a total illusion, generated by programed input. The brain thinks it has a body, a wife and family. Freaky? If your paradigm is open minded enough. The latest on reality and quantum entanglement might suggest the information we interpret as reality, makes for interesting reading, especially when consciousness is analysed. www.near-death.com...

"...wired up to a computer"....wait, what?

GIGO - Garbage in, garbage out

I'm sorry. Can you clarify the details of this computer? Is it AI? Can it perform higher functions that of a calculator?

If this is a simulation, the programmers need to get busy making it more fun.

If the greatest minds suggest that reality is a persistent illusion. Then I ask how is the illusion maintained. The brain in the jar is living what it perceives to be a meaningful existence because its interpreting the input as a meaningful existence.

We believe every piece of matter in the Universe comes into being because its been created by a dying sun, its been blasted to temperatures as high as the Corona of the sun, and is supposed to spontaneously generate biological life? In the real sense. We look out into our model of the Universe which seems to be teeming with places that could support life but we find none. What we perceive to be reality, is assembled as a model primarily in our own heads. Even though science tells us its mostly empty space out there.

The possibility that remains is that consciousness is creating the illusion of biological life, which is the only way it could be created because all the environments apart from our immediate neighbourhood in the cosmos suggest that our paradigm of biological life couldn't be supported. I am suggesting that even under the present scientific dogma, that earth in reality if it exists at all could never have developed biological life in a real sense, because under the present paradigm it was, and still is a sun blasted ball.

Fun for the characters in their simulated world...or fun for them?

There is an objective reality that is outside of our perception, there's just no basis other than our senses to detect the "real" reality.

I'm forced to trust my senses regardless of the flawed nature of our experience or the actual nature of reality.

We are the programmers, since we are far from perfect, mistakes are made. Once they get into the program they cant be got out. Just ignored. Out of place artefacts being one example. In fact all of the anomalies that get discussed on ATS. Once an idea is accepted as probable into the group psych, in this model the feedback begins, until what we consider physical proof exists. When this stage is reached its part of perceived reality.

In our reality the planet Mars exists as sun blasted ball without much of an atmosphere, but if consciousness exists throughout the universe in their own perceived realities, then the Martians might have a great life, flying to an Earth in their flying saucers, which fits in with their particular program of what reality is. Then observed as a fleeting anomaly in ours. When we pick up their electromagnetic waves. In fact Barsoom might exist.

The only thing known for sure is the fact of personal consciousness, all the electro magnetic waves coming in could be interpreted as input that creates a reality.

So Earth is a construct, based on the reality program that we have constructed. For life to exist in our paradigm it had to also have a moon, and be at a certain distance from the sun. Which when you look at it, in all the Universal chaos, its all to perfect to be real. A paradox that on the one hand says its real. But all too " perfect" to actually exist in real terms.
