China used more cement in last 3.5 years than the Usa in last 100 years

Three Gorges consumed 16 million cubic meters of concrete.

That is approximately 40 million metric tons.

Approximately 15% of that mass was cement.

So, the Three Gorges consumed approximately 6 million metric tons of cement...about 10% of US annual consumption.

Yes I wonder where all this cement is going....

Pictures: Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou etc...

Mind you that most of those buildings were not there 5 years ago. Stuff goes up there in INSANE rates, give it another three years and then see what you have there. Still a lot of crazy and impressive architecture projects planned which will be built within the next years. Of course, if someone believes China is still 100 years behind the West, no wonder people are surprised about how much cement China uses. This is where the money is today and it certainly shows - would not be surprised if the cement usage number is actually correct.
