Found this, this morning, and I'm stoked.

I was out and about this morning doing a bit of maintenance around the place and found this little fella.



I was dropping some dead standing timber and this little bloke was in a small tree just off the drop line. I'm pretty confident on the saw but it wasn't going to be easy, I was trying to drop a pretty big one about 180° from it's natural lean through a clearer path. Anyway, old mates presence has put the kibosh on that idea.

I thought these were all but gone from here, but apparently not. I'd be guessing this is a female or maybe a small male, don't know.

I'm just absolutely stoked that they are here.

Nice catch MSAW. Where there's one there's bound to be more. None my way but that doesn't mean they aren't about. Plenty or roos, wals and potaroos. You must have a good environment there.

I'm thrilled you left the tree and habitat for the beautiful critter standing.

A regular cleaning up and pruning, leaving some lower branches for easy access is enticing and welcome I'm sure,,you could dress it up an gain a real friend there.

You could always support him/her a little in the off days and seasons and gain more than you can buy with paper.

Very happy for you! These times don't come often and should be cherished.

I do listen out for them of a night time occasionally, never heard any. I reckon there was a problem with packs of wild dogs around the area which would explain the 1080 in all the forests around the place. They would be easy picking when they're on the ground.

i was on youtube the other day and saw this. it's from 2009, i book marked it for some reason.
there is a whole page of them there.

MSAW, I have a question. Why are they sometimes called drop bears?

They fall asleep in the forks of trees. Doesn't leave too much room to role over if you see what I mean.

I see those in Zoos once in a while. Our bears are big and black.....maybe I should be calling them pleasingly plump Native African American or something instead. We have to find a new word for black.
