Stealth is so much better than you think. The new stealth aircraft coming out are so much better than the early stealth aircraft, and better than anything out there capable of detecting them. And Iran didn't "hack" the RQ-170, they spoofed the GPS on it and it crashed.

This is not making sense... what do you mean the 'spoofed' the radar?? if they can bring dwon a drone what makes you think they dont have more surprises?

They were able to identify where the UAV was, and access the GPS, which was the first layer of communications. They made it think it was somewhere else, and it crashed. The GPS was always the weak point of the communications system.

The Sentinel was never a top of the line platform. It filled a hole until another platform was ready, by providing a cheap, off the shelf UAV.

What makes you think that top of the line UAVs don't have some surprises of their own now?
edit on 8/2/2014 by Zaphod58 because: (no reason given)

I understand....

Got me thinking though.... is there such a thing as a projectile/missile that can be shot at incoming enemy aircraft, and release a ton of smaller emp bombs that would in effect create an airborne emp minefield.

just for argument sake.... would such a thing not make most drone or aircraft vulnerable?

How would you keep them airborne? They'd have an extremely limited ability to hit anything. And they'd be so small that any EMP field they released would be tiny. You'd be better off putting warheads on them.

Got the idea from this

go to 1.12 into the video....

doesnt have to be airborne for long. unlike shrapnel/pellets, emp source doesnt have to make physical contact...

Yeah but barring a massive EMP right on top of them, they can be hardened against it. And they would be such small bursts that they wouldn't have a lot of trouble with them.
