I don't understand why this would offend anyone. It is more politically correct mumbo jumbo. It makes me think about the term African American. Are black people offended by the term black people? I wouldn't think so, considering if I had a nickel for every time a black person referred to me as a white boy I would have a lot of nickels. It is not a derogatory term is my point. And everyone who is an American citizen is an American anyway, but that is not really the point of this thread. I just wanted to say I am not offended by being called white, or caucasian.

Another thing however is this: I've noticed that many people will use the term white person or black person, and that seems to be okay. But I rarely hear people call someone a brown person or red person. Almost like people feel it is not as correct as the white or black term. I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this. I suppose I do that myself. I will say white or black, but not any other skin color. I don't mean anything bad or derogatory. Just something to ponder I suppose.

I do wish you had posted the source for the second statement you used. What you've presented is that 150 years ago, Indians and settlers were fighting in Minnesota, and the State chose to offer a reward per Indian killed.

The second statement says that some Indians currently believe that the correct definition of "Redskin" is that it is a verb meaning taking the scalp of an Indian.

Funny how white people think we should just get over our almost being completely wiped off the Earth or how we are the minority on our own land.
For a moment, I thought you had changed the subject to the Jews.

Leonard Peltier was a murderer, not a hero, reminds me of another ethnic group rallying around OJ(and stupid white kids with Che Gueverra shirts). The term redskin did not originate from scalps, as a matter of fact OKLAHOMA is a "native American" name that means land of the redskinned man. "Native Americans" referred to themselves as redskinned before white folks even showed up.
Not saying that what happened didn't suck, it did. It did not happen to you. My grandfather got beat up and robbed in the 30's but if I was seeking retribution for it you'd probably look at me funny.
Heck if you want to cling to what happened to your forebears in antiquity (so that you don't have to take personal responsibility for your situation) rage against whatever happened in Asia a million years ago that drove your people across the bering strait. Maybe you can open some casinos in China.

I'm not sure what the issue is here - Caucasian is the scientific term to describe a white person. Police use it all the time, for example. I don't understand why the term could be seen as "racist".

Silly, non-news.

This has been done before, back around 2003.

www.cafepress.com...

It blew up in their faces as I recall. Instead of mocking the white man and "raising awareness" the whites embraced the idea and they sold out their shirts in record time.

Clearly the whites who bought those shirts were displaying white pride, which as we all know is also racist.

Honestly, talk about a Catch-22... bitch about the shirts and you're a hypocritical racist, don't give a flip about the shirts and you're tolerating racism, get a kick out of the shirts and you're a bigotted racist...

See the pattern? Is it any wonder why there is an ever growing percentage of society composed of all races who shrug their shoulders and say "whatever" when someone accuses them of being a racist?

You've brought up something I haven't thought about for years. You're right that Caucasian is a scientific term. What is the corresponding term for a Black? Negro? Negroid? Does anybody use those terms, or are they racist? I really haven't kept up on it and I don't know. If it's racist, and it may be, what term do scientists use in their discussions? African?

It's just a chance for me to learn.

You'll be called a "racist" because you are Caucasian wearing a Caucasian shirt. You are NOT allowed to do that!!!
