Serbian President Boris Tadic has survived an assassination attempt on the streets of Belgrade. A black Audi sedan attempted to ram the presidents car. Actions taken by the security detail prevent the attack by veering a vehicle into the onrushing car.

BELGRADE (AFP) - Pro-West Serbian President Boris Tadic survived an apparent assassination attempt when a car repeatedly tried to ram his vehicle during a high-speed attack on one of Belgrade's busiest streets, his office said.

Officials said Tadic was not injured in the attack around 9:00 pm (2000 GMT) Tuesday in central Belgrade's Kneza Milosa avenue, when an black Audi pursued the president's heavily protected motorcade before trying to slam his vehicle.

"Proper reaction by security officials prevented serious consequences," Tadic's office said in a statement released early Wednesday morning. Police have yet to comment on the attack.

Tadic is a pro western Serbian. His predecessor Zoran Djindjic, the man who extradited Slobidan Milosevic, was assassinated by a sniper. While blamed on the mafia, Milosevic still has a loyal following and could be responsible for both. Ratko Mladic has managed to stay hidden because of a 5th column that is protecting the war criminals.
