Writer, Scholar etc

Excuse me if this has been asked previously, but I have looked through the site and either can't find it or have completely missed it, but why do some people have additional items other than member written under their screen names, like Scholar and Writer.

The titles are given based on your participation here on ATS.

Scholar status means you are an active participant in a research project.
Fighter means that you are a participant in our most excellent debate forum
Writer is for those who write short stories and the like in our writers forum
