People drink alcohol because they enjoy the effects. Rick Perry is basically saying that homosexual behavior is so much fun, so enjoyable, so pleasurable, that... It's a Trap! Our extreme homosexual urges must be resisted at all cost!

From what i have seen and witnessed from American politics....watching the debates is painful because most candidates are complete idiots who have no real clue what the people want.
So yes,agreed...the guy is an idiot.

Don't get me started on the rest of them or how the idiotic public listens to them and flocks to them and believes them.
Thats another thread altogether.

Sometimes (especially in politics) a suit and tie is just a disguise for a parasite who hides among us.

Look...I just compared a politician to a parasite...I think I am more correct than Rick Perry.

What the heck is wrong with some people?! Alcoholism is a disease, so what he's basically saying is that homosexuality is too. When did Rick Perry make the decision he was going to be straight, since it's a choice and all. Oh wait, he hasn't been exposed to the virus yet. What an idiot.

It's sickening that this guy is the Governor of Texas and even more sickening that people are electing bigots like this to office.

What he is saying is worse. He is stating that alcoholism and homosexuality are genetic predispositions that a person with enough internal fortitude can overcome and 'deny' themselves the perverse pleasure of said disposition.

He is basically saying that if a drunk can lay off the hooch then a gay person can lay off the laying.

i dont even know why everyone surprised there are gay people.

Women are super complicated, there was always going to be some that chose very good looking men instead.

As a non practicing alcoholic; Rick Perry simply doesn't know what he's talking about.

It's this type of unthinking rhetoric that makes me ashamed to be from Texas.

Apparently the right wing conservatives need a new rallying point and gay bashing seems to be the current choice.

This type of hatred is bound to blow up in their faces and be reflected in the coming elections.

I'd say that this is the end for his political career, but looking at the demographics, it might boost it.

I just have one thing to say about this, they're all political morons.

You are born alcoholic (according to scientists)
You are born homosexual (according to scientists/homosexual researchers)

Both are genetic conditions (according to scientists/researchers), to label it a "disorder" is not fully accurate.

They are conditions that have a completely different degree of effect on society, one being far more destructive to life/property/business (alcoholism) than the other.

The effects are different, and the harm they cause to others is different; therefore the "conditions" should be "treated" differently.

However the definition of them as genetic conditions is the same, and that label was given by scientists, not conservatives; in my opinion. It seems he interpreted "disorder" to mean "genetic condition" in his response, otherwise the criticism he is receiving here is well warranted.

Since society is harmed by one of these conditions, you should strive to quell that one (alcoholism); since society is not harmed by the other condition, it does not make sense to attempt to quell it (homosexuality).

And I am as religious a poster you will find on this site.

God Bless,

humans like other humans.

humans like narcotics, alcohol, sugar, nicotine and any number of prescription drugs.

Just acknowledge it exists and deal with it rationally or just dont do anything.

I was so taken back by this comment, I had to leave an opinion on his governmental website. And I quote " what kind of moron are you? To compare alcoholism to homosexuality? What the hell are you smoking. You need a reality check son!

Sense I didn't get to post it, I called the opinion hotline and spoke to a live individual and read them my quote. Hope he gets the message.

Yeah, but you cannot 'un-gay' yourself.

This made me laugh! :-D

Sometimes the wisest of sentences don't need to be deep and thought provoking.

Just simple and straight to the point.

Love it

Bahahaha, I've had the same partner for 9 years. We do the horizontal mambo so infrequently these days that if it were an addiction I would surely have exploded by now.

Have you tried role-playing?

Not the D&D kind by the way.

Unless of course you are into that.

To be completely honest, I'm loving life now that I'm not living at ransom to Mr Winkle.

There are so many other non sexual things out there that are great fun. I love offroading in my SUV, camping, I might be just a tiny bit addicted to ATS
, and I work a lot.

Sex is still great, I just don't spend my life in pursuit of it any more.

So, put that in your we're hopeless addicts pipe and smoke it Rick Perry haha.

Rick Perry has been accused of being closeted.

Maybe he isn't really talking about alcoholism.
