I don't have 5 right off the top of my head, but Jodelle Ferland's performance in Terry Gilliam's 'Tideland' was worthy of an Oscar. A highly underrated film.

That's too easy.

Charlize Theron - Monster
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Sigourney Weaver - Alien, Aliens
Sean Young - Blade Runner
Helena Bonham Carter - Fight Club

Extremely easy. I don't support the OP's opinion. At all.

Evenin',

I can't really say that any of the actresses I ever "liked" we're consistant in either their craft or the roles they chose.
I can however name a few scenes that made me take notice of certain actresses and knew they'd be popular.
They would be (in no specific order):

- Nathalie Portman (Leon the Professional): Despite the slightly creepy undertones, Portman's portrayal of Mathilda in this movie was fantastic and after seeing the next scene, I knew that we'd be seeing more of her in the years to come. Still one of my favorite Besson movies but everytime I watch this film I can't help but think:

"How on Earth did France get so messed up in the head?"

- Scarlett Johansson (Ghost World): I remember the comic book of this one so I guess I am a bit prejudiced in my opinion of it. Still it was the first mainstream film by Scarlett in a co-starring role if memory serves. Not many realized back then that she'd bring down the house wearing a black skintight leather catsuit schlepping for Disney one day but some of us knew big things were in her future.
No, that was most certainly not meant as a double entendre.

- Christina Hendricks (Firefly): I don't know what else to say...except I know the two reasons she was hired for. A fantastic series. Too bad the real government couldn't have a runaway hit on tv about space constitutionalists flouting the establishment when it's goal is to establish a police state. One look at Miss Hendricks and I was fairly positive that even if she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag, we'd definitely be seeing more of her. Imagine my suprise when I discovered she could actually act. I couldn't find many clips of her from Firefly except in a deleted scene that occurs at about 1:40. As near as I can tell...she's the only mainstream actress in Hollywierd with two separate and distinct zipcodes permanantly attached to her.

- Julia Roberts (Mystic Pizza): It's an oldie and much like the title is full of 80's cheesey goodness but it still makes me laugh. I knew Miss Roberts would be a hit after this one...mind you I never liked any of the other Robert's family members.
(Namely Eric and Emma!)
'Nuff Said.

- Uma Thurman (The Adventures of Baron Munchausen): Her role as the Goddess Venus was spellbinding to my teenage mind. After Kill Bill, I'm kinda glad I hung in there.
(Raging Bull was good too but whatever...)

As I said, not exactly my "all-time" favorites but just a few of the times I could see Hollywierd's eyes just a rollin' with dollar signs from a long distance off.
Nice thread.
S+F.

-Peace-

Hot list(AKA, I think these women are extremely attractive, they also may or may not be great actresses):

-Natalie Portman- V for Vendetta, Black Swan
-Scarlet Johansson - Lost in Translation
-Kate Beckinsale- Underworld
-Keira Knightley - Bend it Like Beckham
-Audrey Hepburn- Breakfast at Tiffany's

Talented Actresses(may or may not be hot)

Sigourney Weaver-Alien
Meryl Streep(even though she personally annoys me in the interviews I had watched in past when I had TV, she can act)-Sophie's Choice
Audrey Hepburn- Breakfast at Tiffany's
Susan Sarandon-Thelma and Louise
Katherine Hepburn-Philadelphia Story

There's a bunch more. Maybe it would have been better to narrow it down to last five years. Of all time is a lot of time.

Linda Hamilton?
It's gotta be Linda Hamilton...as in meaning it can't possibly be Bess "20 Minute Workout" Motta, the D.O.A. roomie.
(Please let it not be Bess Motta...JK)

Or did you mean the one in the TV series who's now on GoT?

-Come with me if you want to Live-

Ooops, I-I mean...
