I've always believed that the best way for a person to get their point across is to speak from the heart. Maybe when one person speaks from the heart they do so with power and conviction, while another may express themselves through compassion, while still another does so with laughter. Or maybe as a complex human being they use all of their feelings and emotions in their writing. I think it's great to have shared so many laughs with others, and I bet they didn't even know they brightened up my day or brought a smile to my face. No, it hurts me far more when there is no laughter mixed in with learning, debating, arguing, or giving...giving of many stars to let others know that what they said meant something. So give them to me, because what I just said meant something. I'm not sure what it meant, but you can't argue or debate the fact that something was in fact said and had some sort of meaning to it.

''TBST''? was that a dig? BS?

You asked me to explain a part of my post, then posted some movie clip of people kissing and talking about chicken soup?

I would ask you if you were drunk but it is probably against t&c. Maybe you just hate me, whatever.

This is what i mean...Im laughing my ass off and now my day got better. Thanks man..

This is exactly what I mean... why be so damned serious all of the time? I just made this guy's day. That's a good thing, I think...

Laugh and the world laughs with you... you know the rest. Some of history's most celebrated authors were humorists... Shakespeare, Twain, Vonnegut, Kinsey, Darwin... all funny stuff.

I do see your point with regard to unintelligent humor... those wisecracking with no real substance. Unfunny. I at least put some thought into my snark. Thoughtful snark. Thnark... to coin a term. I try to be thnarky.

I read once " You laugh hardest t what bothers you the most."
If I did not find humor in all the horrors that are going on in the world, I would surely die from sorrow.

Have you never noticed that the people who joke the most are the ones crying the most on the inside? And laughter has been scientifically proven to produce endorphins, which helps prevent depression.

Let me psychoanalyse you for a 2nd.
It's maybe not the increase of humour on ATS. It's that you feel threatened by humour on a subconcious level as you believe it's not a specialty of yours.
So by creating this thread you are trying to restrain the humour on ATS in the belief that you can compete on a more level playing field.
Or it could be exactly as your op meant and this was an exercise in futility...or is it?

Wanted to wait a bit to see responses to my rant.

Won't reply to every response as that would make me repeat myself at almost every response.

You know what I meant, if not. Read it again.

Never said no jokes.

My point being that inappropriate 'unasked for' out of context puns are unnecessary in almost a spam way. Which seems to be the case with a lot of threads. This causes derailment and whatnot regardless of the thread content (doom porn, religion, politics whatever).

If one wants to make a joke, make a good solid one like I said in my OP. To quote:

unless you're actually convinced it will benefit the discussion of the thread or your own point? ... In a good way at that. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I enjoy laughing like you all. I like being genuinely happy in my heart, mind and body.

That said. I enjoyed many responses to this thread. And many seemed to not have read my OP in full context or didn't get it.

Take a look at someone like George Carlin. In most of his material, he's telling us how *bleep*ed the system is, atrocities committed by the government, you name it.. Very outspoken and opinionated on our culture of corruption. He takes his outrage at all these social issues, and uses humor as a tool to point out the absurdity. A dash of comedy can, and has, been used to air otherwise unspeakable truths.

“and he would probably not agree with my conviction that a sense of humor is the main measure of sanity. But who can say for sure? Humor is a very private thing.” -Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72

I assume your talking about sarcasm, and if it hurts so bad, maybe the internet just isn't for you.

I try to use humor because otherwise i would just sound like an ass. Well no more of that. From now on i'm gonna let it all hang out.

I have noticed a lot of your posts. And you rarely disagree with anything. Always trying to be inclusive. Tolerant. No matter what the topic is. Crystals, ghosts, Someone makes a claim and you just agree. All live and let livey like. Thats what grinds my gears. How about learn what your talking about. Grow a back bone and get an opinion. Stop agreeing with every speculative post someone puts out there. Learn to research or stay out of some of these forums. Then people won't be sarcastic to your posts.

See..... Thats why i make jokes. Because i don't want to sound like an ass. Anyways, i'm glad you opened this up for convo. See you on the boards. I'll make sure i'm as serious as i can be.

I'm just kidding, but really, the next book you read should be from an accredited scholar, not from the new age section.

Humor is supposed to make you think.

George Carlin was a master at this.

as was Red Skelton

Sadly many on ATS are not good at it at all.

I don't know about everyone else, but I enjoy a tongue and cheek post every once in awhile. Everyone needs a chuckle every now and then. I don't feel it takes away from the threads when the joke is related to the subject being talked about. Loosen your tie a little bit, laughter is music to the soul.

That's a good thing if one contributes to the discussion of the thread in a good way and does not 'cause a deliberate derailment.

I have nothing against humor if used in a careful(not meant by tip-toeing, but to be full of care) loving way.
