'They hate our policies, not our freedom'
Quietly released Pentagon report contains major criticisms of administration.
by Tom Regan | csmonitor.com

Late on the Wednesday afternoon before the Thanksgiving holiday, the US Defense Department released a report by the Defense Science Board that is highly critical of the administration's efforts in the war on terror and in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

'Muslims do not hate our freedom, but rather they hate our policies [the report says]. The overwhelming majority voice their objections to what they see as one-sided support in favor of Israel and against Palestinian rights, and the long-standing, even increasing, support for what Muslims collectively see as tyrannies, most notably Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan and the Gulf states. Thus, when American public diplomacy talks about bringing democracy to Islamic societies, this is seen as no more than self-serving hypocrisy.'

This report, commissioned by the DOD, repeats what many have been saying for a long time. Of course, they released it before Thanksgiving, trying to keep it under the radar. What I find ironic is, that if you said this before, you'd be called 'un-patriotic' or 'un-American'. What are the ignorant going to say now? The Pentagon is hates the USA?

Well this is certainly a slap in the face for Mr Bush. It has long been felt that U.S foriegn policy was largely to blame for the hatred directed at America. This report only seems to confirm this,

From linked article
In the eyes of Muslims, American occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq has not led to democracy there, but only more chaos and suffering, it said. U.S. actions appear, in contrast, to be motivated by ulterior motives and deliberately controlled in order to best serve American national interests at the expense of truly Muslim self-determination.

So the only question that remains is what they intend to do about it?

Looks like the intelligent and moderate DoD people have been assigned to the 'Science Board', where they can do no harm, or at least Mr. Rumsfeld thought so.

That thing about them hating our freedom is just ridiculous. "Oh, they hate our freedom! They attacked us! We'd better strip away your civil liberties so they don't do it again!"

I think if anyone hates our freedom is the gummint. They'd do well to listen to Ben Franklin.

I also find it amusing how Dubya's referred to Mr. Bush rather than President Bush. No objections to that--just sayin'....
