You may want to consider the possibility that you are being deceived.

The cults that either worship Bush or bash him are just that: cults. They are not based in fact.

The truth about Bush is that he is never what he seems. Those who think a man like him can be faithfully rendered in the form of a caricature are practicing self-deception.

I strongly advise against it. He is far more clever and potentially dangerous than he is typically given credit for.

It is easy to give in to the urges of bigotry, but it is a road marked by endless pitfalls. Please avoid it!

Let reason be your guide, not the mercurial whims of emotion.

Anyone who claims to know who George W. Bush really is is a liar and a charlatan.

My comment was towards the antipodean members chiming in that their Lucky Country is better than Uncle Sam's lucky country.

Consider me not part of your cult, nor a Bush cult, nor anyone else's.

I have not been deceived by the Bush administration, but I accept the possibility that you may have been. May you find your progression towards whatever the truth is for you a fulfilling path.

hold on...just because I'm criticizing the US, that means that ALL aussies are bitter and resentful towards the US?

Hey I'm sure Oz is a great place to live... what makes it better to you is your opinion. Can't a guy be happy and proud of his country without being mocked or ridiculed?

Of course one can, but no country is a paradise. Therefore, both the good and the bad must be acknowledged: the good must be honoured and the bad fixed.

Australia isn't perfect either. far from it. Our country is run by a short, paunchy, thoroughly repellent man who is in some respects is more right-wing than Bush. For example, Howard is embarrassing australia when he discusses the rights of homosexuals.

We have radio 'personalities' that think it is clever and informative to label all gays as 'pillow-biters' and 'poofs'. Then, when the anti-defamation wing of the gay rights movement in australia protests, they refuse to apologise! I'm talking about Alan Jones, John Laws and Stan Zemanek here people, if anyone knows them.

77% of aussies are racist, apparently, since it is that many that accepted Howard's way of dealing with the Tampa crisis (that is, send in the navy to bully the captain of a vessel trying to save innocent people from certain drowning).

I am the first to point to these things and say 'I am ashamed'. However, like most countries, some things make me glad that I live here.

Well, first of all you are a Western Society and second of all you let go your rights to keep and bear arms, which over time is going to come back to bite you in the behind. Frankly, I admire Australians, but you messed up big time on the firearms issue.

It was never written constitutionally that Australians had a right to bear arms in the same way it was in America. A lot of people have guns. Semi-auto rifles were banned and restrictions on some calibres were put in place. Australia's gun laws are very similar to many European countries as well as Canada I think. While I think it's a pathetic knee-jerk reaction to some tragic gun crimes, you can backslap the Man-of-Steel John Howard for that while you are backslapping him for dragging us into Iraq for Bush.

Funny how Americans admire a man who employs tactics such as reducing citizens rights, specifically the right to self defence. Maybe you'd like to come and liberate us when you have a spare weekend?

I don't know anything at all about John Howard and I don't know anyone else who does either. I'd like to help Australia with it's gun rights issues, but I have my hands full here.

If you are not already, you should join a firearms rights organization like the National Rifle Association so that over time you can get legislation or even Constitutional protection for your rights to keep and bear arms.

Hey.. we have the same stuff here... you should just hope and pray that political correctness doesn't take over your country like it did here... it's killing our free speech in a timely manner.

Does anyone know what the correct label is now for a black er i mean african american er i mean displaced african er i mean eyc, etc, etc.

Or how about Indian, Native American, North American Native, etc. etc. etc.

Your chances are better at winning several lotteries than getting American Citizenship---the doors havent been wide open for decades.

Most Americans were born in America---you can't steal what is yours---people can't choose their place of birth---everyone born in America is Native American.

All lands have been stolen at one time or other (some call it conquered), why not show the world what a wonderful person you are and return whatever property you own back to its original owners?

His sincerity amazes me.

It takes a strong man to admit that he loves the United States of America these days. Way too much hate.

How sad.

tell me, oh enlightened one, what is it about capitalism that you don't like? Because obviously sweatshops, worker exploitation and environmental destruction doesn't bother you. How about visiting some of those countries where the products bound for consumption in the US are made? Do you think the people there are just as happy?

[edit on 30-11-2004 by General Zapata]

Typical Soc/Commy propoganda. I don't know if those people are happy, but they have JOBS (exploitation as you call it) because of what we consume. Do you really think they'd be better off twiddling their thumbs in the street making nothing? These "sweatshops" are the only means of income they have, and the sad thing is humanitarians want to take it away. Some say the conditions are bad, I agree but not all are and those that have poor conditions need new magement and reform which they are getting. Some humanitarians want to see better pay, so where does this money come from that they force the owners to disperse? From the people they lay off. They probably aren't just as happy, but they see what the US has accomplished in the past 150 years and think that if they allow US businesses to come in and set up shop they can reap the benefit, which is true.

Another one who points as socialism and then points at those countries.. none of them practicing any socialism or communism at all! A usual propaganda tactic to make hard-capitalism and corporate controlled government look like the best thing there can be.

It is true that blatant nationalism keeps things from progressing.

I don't "love" any country, what I do love is the globe itself. You can tell me to move to the UK or Canada but I won't.. since I feel it is my duty to defeat the conservative evangelists who pose a clear danger to progression and society.

Stalin and Castro read Karl Marx. Castro is still the slave master, the USSR finally collapsed under the weight of leftist oppression.

People have a choice, left-wing oppression or Democracy, there is very little in-between.

Socialism is left-wing and cannot fly without the engine of Capitalism and democracy. Many despots have tried it and their slaves paid the price.

Why reinvent the wheel when Capitalism works very well?

But still Stalin and Castro didn't practiced one iota of what Karl Marx wrote.. Karl Marx never intended a ruling class under communism.. nor equalized wages... read up yourself and see the truth.

You do have a ruling class under capitalism.. these people control the majority of the wealth... they ultimately have the power to decide who will be rich and who will be poor.

Just because these dictators read it doesen't mean they followed it.. and obvisouly they never followed it.

Democracy is intended to work under communism/socialism. "Democracy" in the USA is now something like "Halliburton VS Microsoft" or some thing like that.. with no chance for other parties to actually make it into the elections. So if you dislike both the republicans and the democrats.... you have little say. There is never any common men in office anymore.. it's all big business owners with interests only in big business.

Yeha capitalism works.. but mostly for the rich. It's the same system which gives big business near unlimited power.. as you can see it puts profits before people and ultimately begun the Iraq War... people made much money off the deaths of people who barely have any money. Under capitalism.. in reality.. Capitalism only suceeds in making a small minority of the population rich.. the rest end up poor... some not even knowing when there next meal comes from.

It is capitalism which is incompatible with democracy.. for big business always gets into office over the man who actually has interests in helping the people.

I am an expat aussie living stateside and I have to agree. Australia and New Zealand are by far the best countries in the world to live and raise a family. Besides the "lucky country" many people also refer to Australia as "God's country" and for good reason.

So why am I still here? Well America is good for one thing and one thing only....making money. Nowhere else on the planet will a population sacrifice everything to make and spend money beyond their means. For a business owner syuch as myself it is nirvana. Just make sure to convert those savings back to aussie dollars and euros every month

You obviously don't live in America or if you do you should get out more often.

Anyone can become rich in America, anyone can run for public office in America, anyone can be poor in America, anyone can be corrupt in America---the corporations don't own anyone and are constantly being watched by their stock holders, the IRS, every branch in the government, the UN, the Middle East, Europe, Canada and most importantly by Santa Clause.

Unlike all the other countries in the world we do have some bad people, and they can be found in---rich, poor and middle classes.

America is not perfect---but more perfect than any other country by a long shot.
