Curtin University researchers assisting in the hunt for MH370 say they still do not know if a signal picked up by offshore sound recorders was caused by the aircraft crashing into the Indian Ocean.

Curtin University's Centre for Marine Science and Technology maintains a number of undersea sound recorders with hydrophones around the Australian coast.

When satellite data showed the missing Malaysian Airlines plane had tracked south into the Indian Ocean, the researchers retrieved an acoustic recorder that sits 400 metres underwater in the Perth canyon, 40 kilometres west of Rottnest Island.

A new approach. Time will once again tell if it is a real clue. It seems worth checking into given the state of the investigation.

If this was to prove to be the location of the aircraft, I wonder if it was flying toward Perth or it is just a coincidence.
