This is the problem.


When dumping drilling mud at sea was banned they dumped it here instead. Huge amounts of it, up in the sand dunes at Blackdog Beach, Aberdeen.

Now it's slowly seeping into the sea, poisoning fish and other life in a permanent arc of pollution.

Ideas for mitigating measure are welcome, says the Aberdeen Voice.

Where did you ever see oil dug out from under a sandy beach like that before? Except that isn't just oil it's drilling mud. A whole mixture of stuff.

This is from the BBC.

"Prof MacIntyre added: "I have never seen anything like this. I have seen many beaches which have been contaminated by oil from shipping disasters but that oil is on the surface and you can see it."

"Here it is down below and is pushing upwards, which is quite a different situation."
