Something I've learned since looking at ATS is that gun ownership is a such big part of American culture. I knew about the second amendment and the 300 million or so firearms owned in the US but not how passionate some Americans are about gun ownership.
As Charlton Heston said "from my cold dead hands". Referring to the only way anyone would take his guns away. And that seems to sum up a lot of Americans views on gun ownership. There is simply no way they are going to give up their guns. That's how it is and I think very little will change that.

I wouldn't give up my right to keep and bear arms just as much I wouldn't give up my right to speak freely or to unreasonable search and seizure or trial by jury. Which of your civil rights would you willingly give up?

You can't talk to gun nuts..they live in constant fear , be it real or imaginary You can't debate them or ask them to show common sense.

What does bother me is...when everything else is harmful to the public..it is taken off the market, recalled or stricter laws, yet you can' do or say anything with/about guns.

Guns have killed more than they have ever saved..1000 or more fold..yet nothing is ever done about them.

Common sense is lacking when it comes to gun control..to the gun nuts anyways.

Very perceptive.

Guns are a part of the culture. Not in the cities as much as out in the country. And we still have a lot of really wild land that folks tend to live in. Too much time wandering Texas Hill Country without a weapon could be very dangerous for you.

mythical? lol.

yeah, mao, stalin, hitler… all quite "mythical" till their goons show up at your door to escort you to FEMA camps…

not that I think guns will stop the technocratic enslavement and RFID chipping plans, but "MYTHICAL"??

just cuz you live in the stix, does that mean you are so detached from reality and history?

in Australia when they put in gun laws, violent home invasions increased dramatically (you know, 2-3 or more thugs with bats and knives show up at granny and grampy's house, or YOUR house, OR some violent ex=boyfriend predator shows up with 50-100 lb weight advantage to beat his ex-girlfriend wife who is now defenseless…)

people like you talk this talk until you get threatened and then you turn colors quick: I have seen it happen and nothing is more scary than a turn-coat liberal gun owner who has no respect for guns and how to use them and why we need them…

most gun owners are calm, rational law-abiding smart, forward-thinking people who can see that the areas with the most violent crimes and where you feel the most unsafe are areas where the gun laws are the strictest.

go to most major cities and have home boy threaten you a few times and tell me who is nuts… in a world of nuts it makes common sense to be able to defend yourself and your family.

in your view only the nuts get guns… nein danke, herr hitler.

I think you know the answer to that rhetorical question. Like yourself I wouldn't want to give up any rights which I considered important and others like yourself shouldn't either.

Didn't shake me up. I just hadn't factored any serious ATS members trying to define their ideological debating partners by pulling out the worst of the extreme. Equivalent to defining Christianity by citing Westboro. But...your call. You is who you is.

Depends who you talk to, so I gave no definitive figures.

The UN reported that Canada ranks third among the developed western countries (behind the United States and Norway) in the civilian ownership of firearms. Source

Its not even close! Canada has 30 guns per 100 people while the US has 89 guns per 100 people. This is where you either put your foot in your mouth, or confess you were wrong, and that you were off by A LOT.

Hold on...how many brain cells are you operating on..
I know its seem hard and maybe too many words or big words(sound them out)..but read carefully before posting.

I never stated ban guns in my post..I simply stated that whenever something is considered to dangerous for the public..they do a lot to make sure it is either safe or make certain types handle these said bad product and keep it out of those that may wish to harm others..etc.

Guns the only the only dangerous tool where any fool of the street can operate it.

You gun nuts love to throw the term law abiding...tell me how many "law abiding citizens have lost it and shot up a mall..etc" , too many thats how much. Without stricter laws and mental evaluations..etc.Joe Nutbag can own a gun, as long as he is law abiding..well until he decides he doesn't want to be.

We have them in Canada too...from what I read, we may have more per capita, but we treat them differently.

From what I hear (i only have 1 friend in Canada that is very pro-gun, and am going off of what he told me), Canada has actually a pretty large gun culture. It's a bit hard for me to find up to date stats on the number of guns up there, but are you guys not in the top 5 nations of most guns per capita? Obviously the US is #1, and then the Czech Republic and Serbia are 2 and 3 I believe, and then Canada is 4 or 5.

Also, I hear that gun restrictions up there are slowly being pulled back. Is there a big push of sorts to expand gun rights? Of course it's not going as less restrictive as the US, but aren't the magazine limits on the chopping block currently, along with rolling back on some of the prohibited/restricted rifles?
