SCI/TECH: Kazaa says it has lawful intentions, page 1

In defense of Kazaa, the creators of Kazaa - Sharman Networks - told the Federal Court of Sydney that it was created with lawful purposes in mind and also that Sharman Networks can't be held responsible for the actions of its users. Some of Australia's largest record companies dragged Sharman to court over what the recording companies consider the biggest system (Kazaa) of copyright infringement ever seen." According to Kazaa, while millions swap music files online only 2% of those are in Australia, the only place where they fall under copyright laws.

The Federal Court in Sydney has been told the creators of the popular file-sharing software, Kazaa, cannot be held responsible if people use it to illegally swap music files.

I understand that ATS users have their opinions on the issue of privacy, but are the creators responsible for its user's actions?

If yes, then aren't other creators also responsible for the actions of its users too, for example gun makers. Are they responsible for deaths caused by guns?
