The Angel of the Lord is Jesus.
The New Testament makes a point of saying that Jesus was higher than the angels.

Hebrews 1:4
So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
(2011 NIV)

Jesus was higher, except while he was a human, then he was lower.

Hebrews 2:9
But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
(2011 NIV)

But he was never their equivalent.

The Angel of Yahweh was a Christophany. Jesus was an angel in the sense that He was His Father's messenger, not in the sense that He was an angelic being.

During His ministry, Jesus delivered His Father's message.

The Angel of Yahweh was a Christophany.
Says who?

Jesus was an angel in the sense that He was His Father's messenger, not in the sense that He was an angelic being.
Jesus preached the gospel. So did the Apostles.

During His ministry, Jesus delivered His Father's message.
More as a prophet.
