Here's one thing I don't get: Some liberals want to make prostitution legal, yet scream that a woman is used by men.

But isn't that what prostitution is?

Well, I'm not a 'Liberal' but perhaps you'll find something useful in what I have to say anyway. (BTW, is there some big Liberal movement to legalize Prostitution or was that just your way of taking a cheap shot at a whole group of people at once??)

IMO the woman isn't being used by men by being a prostitute. Now if she was 'Owned' by a Pimp on the other hand then I'd say she was being used then. Otherwise she is simply providing a service for payment of some kind. Both parties know and consent to what is happening and both agree upon the price. Both of them are adults as well, so I don't see the problem personally.

defiling? They were ALWAYS whores. No one put a gun to their head and made them do it. Plenty of artists have made it big while keeping their clothes firmly ON. This is the same 'pornography, prostitution and stripping degrades women' argument. Women involved in these activities have decided to sell themselves, they have not (except in rare cases) been coerced (at least not economically) into it. Their dignity has a price, and they decided to sell it. Blaming the consumers of such services is plain ridiculous.

I guess sometimes it's good to have hardcore feminists.... to keep's the balance I suppose...

Men...... why do women always have to show their boobs to get anywhere??

because they want money. Don't play this 'boohoo, woe is me, I have to become a whore to make money' claptrap, no one here is going to be fooled by it.

Personally, I support legalized prostitution and don't have a problem with a women using her brain, boobs or a combination of both to advance her career.

Marketing your assets, regardless of what they are, is the smart thing to do. Britney Spears understands that, Diane Sawyer understands that, Backstreet Boys/nsync understand that (you wouldn't believe who makes up a big part of their demographic )

Play to your strengths - whatever those might be.

Actually, both of the women in question began their careers while they were still very young, impressionable girls, who relied heavily on the advice of their managers/parents. It's not exactly putting "a gun to their head," but if a trusted adult who's supposedly looking out for their best interests suggests wearing a smaller blouse or having breast implants, an impressionable teen or pre-teen would probably go along with it.

yes, but in the end, it is THEIR choice, and it is them who reap the profits. If britney spears and christina aguilera really didn't want to be viewed as sex objects, they should give all the money back to the consumers who paid for their products.

Generally, I'd agree with that statement, General; but speaking as a mom, there's no way I'd allow my daughter to make that decision. These girls were, what...14? 15? when they started their pop careers.

As for reaping the profits, I would guess that the parents *may* have received a bit of that $$$. Didn't Spears build a huge house outside New Orleans for her mother, or did I dream that?

I have no problems with other women who flaunt their sexuality...it's all about how and when. I don't even mind women like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, but I do see how these icons have become a problem with younger girls. Unfortunately, the younger generation does seem hyper-sexed these days...which is a shame. I'm not going to blame Britney Spears though...

The problems I see today with women mostly correlates with self-esteem. I can't stress how important I think instilling self-esteem in girls starting at a young age is. Girls also need to learn how not to play the victim card, to feel empowerment with their lives. I think it's important for a woman not to just think of herself as a "woman", but as a person...and to know she is in charge of her life. A young lady with a high sense of self-worth will look at a celebrity like Paris Hilton and not fall prey by aspiring to be like her.

There's only so much we can do to limit what kids will be exposed to by the media, but we do have some control over what values these kids will have.

Yeah, I remeber when Madonna was popular and my less-than-teenage nieces thought she was the best thing around.*sigh* One grew out of that mentality, one didn't.
Of course, Madonna is pretty tame by today's standards.

I see no problem with a woman being confident with her sexuality and showing off her body, to an extent. I've always thought a little should be left to the imagination, so fitted clothing is cool, but scantily clad is not cool. This is MY poinion, btw.
Even women in well tailored clothing could be sensual.
What I don't get is women who wear as their uniform what I term "librarian" clothes: Loose top, long loose skirts, boring colors.

Please note that I said **some** liberals. One of them is Gloria Steinem btw. She whined about how women were basically being used working as cocktail waitresses or something along that line, and she wants prostitution legalized.

Prostitution allows a man to use you no matter what. He uses you to get his cheap (or not so cheap) thrills.

On the flip side of the coin, while we're talking about feminazis hating on marriage...ideally marriage benefits both parties, by nature there shouldn't be any "using" going on. Some feminazis equate marital sex with rape!

Something wrong with that thinking....

I'm not an advocate for prostitution or anything but ever think that maybe the prostitute is getting "cheap thrills" as well? Not to mention she's making a profit? Hence, she is using the man as well...
