Im not going to debate whether or not rap is art with you. I personally dont enjoy it, but, by all definitions, it is art.

You people are so transparent.

Back to racist statements, equality is applying the same rules to everyone equally, no bending the rules or exceptions for race, gender, sexual preference, religion, etc.... One rule fits all or that one rule fits none.
Theres no 'rule' about it at all, THAT'S THE POINT.

This town has chosen to pressure this man to leave his position, because they question a man that would use that word in public.

Meanwhile, in Arizona, theres a vocally racist sheriff name 'Ol Joe that keeps getting re-elected.

Its called democracy.

No, it's called ridiculous because, I imagine we are talking about the US, since this was in Conneticut, the US is not a democracy, it is a democratic REPUBLIC.

However, a Caucasian kills a black person, it's spun into a hate crime faster than a politician can stuff $10k in kickbacks into his pockets and it's all over the MSM. Five blacks grab two Caucasian teenagers, beat him to death after they make him watch them rape her a few dozen times and it's called, hmm, not a hate crime, not racially motivated, naw, it's just a "normal" crime. But the "politicians" sure try awful damn hard to keep it out of the MSM.

Where is the equality? If you guessed it's not being applied, you guessed right.

Any and every race throughout history has been racist, even today look at Apartheid, Xenophobic Israel or the idiot Marxist in the new Apartheid South Africa, oh wait, they can't be racists, right and if so, why not? And as soon as the "oppressed" eventually rise up, they become racist as well and you don't want to argue that point because I can take many examples from those two messed up countries ;-)

Being racist is not unusual as it is a defense mechanism in support of your "tribe," an inheritance from our past. Tolerance and acceptance that most of us strive towards however, is not the norm and the only way to promote it is evidence in our laws. If you have to extort people to be tolerant, then you must understand it is not natural.

Cheers - Dave

Nice try, but not only did the man admit it, but he is still defending it.

Would you rather have him "pretend" to apologize?

You know that's what they do right?

Why would he need to apologize when he's got a so many people on ATS doing it for him? Looks like the people of Wolfeboro want him gone because they didn't appreciate his bigoted remarks. Shouldn't it matter most how the people of Wolfeboro feel about what their police commissioner said?

Well read the title of the thread. Not apologizing is the supposed problem.

It starts mattering to the rest of the nation when it's covered by msm. They just HAD to make it our/their business so...now it is.

If I had it my way it would have stayed local news.

Hello...that's why this whole debacle is ridiculous.

My entire point was about how this is being put out in media with all the usual pizzazz the media does with these things, (but they only do it when it isn't someone they support, like Obama) Then it is ignored like it doesn't exist..

While I openly admit I mostly cut off from the MSM a while ago, I havent seen this pushed in the media at all. The only place Ive seen it discussed at all is on ats. Other than that, its been nothing more than a couple of quick blips.

But now that we have some dopy white cop being overheard saying a thing like this, the media and talking heads are all over this and emphasize things like "should he be removed from his job" etc..

The town was already pushing for him to resign, before this was even being reported nationally.

All it is that we see is the usual hypocrisy being performed. And the hypocrisy does in fact include both liberals and conservatives, and knows no real group, i.e., everyone is good at hypocrisy.. Wouldn't you agree? It's pretty obvious in my opinion..

You are correct, all sides play the role of hypocrite well. But I question whether or not hypocrisy is enough to excuse the action.

I agree. The voters do get to decide if they want to reelect him. I do not agree with removing a person from an elected office for reasons short of breaking the law or a negligence of their sworn duties, which it does not appear has happened in this case. a reply to: captaintyinknots

The police commission of which he is one third, held a meeting and 100 or so residents showed up to express their disapproval and demand his resignation. The mayor and the board of selectmen don't have the authority to remove him. What's so wrong with the people of Wolfeboro attending a police commission meeting and expressing their displeasure? I don't think they can force him out but don't they have the right to publicly denounce him as long as he remains in office?

No. I don't think his refusal to apologize is the problem. The problem is that he's an elected official who is slinging racial epithets in public.

1)It was New Hampshire, but thanks for showing you dont even know a thing about the topic of the conversation; and 2) The process is called democracy, friend.

However, a Caucasian kills a black person, it's spun into a hate crime faster than a politician can stuff $10k in kickbacks into his pockets and it's all over the MSM. Well, without delving too much into this strawman (im not saying it doesnt happen, im simply saying examples are necessary for an in depth look at it-shock factor doesnt work on me), i will say, it sounds like your problem is with the media, and not with the issue at hand.

Again, it seems like its the old "he gets away with bad things, so I should get to too" defense. Thats a popular one in this thread.

Any and every race throughout history has been racist, even today look at Apartheid, Xenophobic Israel or the idiot Marxist in the new Apartheid South Africa, oh wait, they can't be racists, right and if so, why not? Why would I argue that point? It falls right in line with what I have said all along.

You guys keep trying to frame it as though I somehow defend one persons use of that word but not another. Ive said it at least a half dozen times in this thread: I dont think ANYONE should use that word.

Being racist is not unusual as it is a defense mechanism in support of your "tribe," an inheritance from our past. Tolerance and acceptance that most of us strive towards however, is not the norm and the only way to promote it is evidence in our laws. SO, you'd rather laws be made that infringe on free speech?

There is nothing about this that is extortion. This case, and many others, are flat proof of a shift in the societal norm in america. It is flat proof that society can dictate what is acceptable and what isnt.

Natural or unnatural, this is all about how society views these things. And society is saying no more.

He probably is too stupid to even be a cop since they are supposed to be observant and detail oriented, but he seems to think Obama is a black person, so he fails already.. But to be fair to him a little bit, Obama does the very same thing when he says things against whites when he himself is half white. They seem to both be complete idiots just based on that alone.

They are both equally as stupid for the exact same thing, but what is hilarious is that it is only brought up anywhere at all if it is done by some white person.. (unless it's Obama, then his white half is ignored of course). Throw them both out from their jobs should be what people are suggesting,,,, but I personally wouldn't say that since it is just people talking, plus it was a private conversation that some busybody waitress wanted to make an issue over it, maybe hoping to cash in on it somehow.

Are you claiming that Obama has been overheard calling a white guy a fu$&ing cracker?

Theres that word again...busybody....strange that you all feel the need to label her...by the way, there is NOTHING that says she is a waitress.

I dont quite understand why so many people are trying to defend this when they obviously havent even read the source material....have you seen the guys full quote? Shall I remind you that he said it in a public place, within earshot of other people?

Not a cop.
Apparently not a waitress.
There's no expectation of privacy in public.

Jeez. Maybe if you were a bit more familiar with the topic you wouldn't have to ramble on about Obama.. or is that really what you wanted to do anyway?

EDIT:
Busy body? The woman overheard an elected official making bigoted remarks in public, she wrote to the police commission to complain and Copeland, the one who she was complaining about, wrote her back and basically told her to get lost. Yeah. Firm grasp of what's going on. Thanks for taking the time to have a considered opinion.

The location was in the US, that was the important point.

No, my problem is with the myth that only caucasians can be racist and it is a myth.

Not at all, but if we are going to have a rule, one rule fits all, equality under the rule of law. Just because someone else does illegal things doesn't make it morally or ethically justified for me by any stretch of the imagination.

Good to know you recognize the hypocrisy and inequalities in society when it comes to other breeds of humans other than caucasians

Nope, not defending the use of derogatory statements concerning any race (breed), gender, sexpref or religion. I'm just saying that if people want to burn this police commissioner at the stake (metaphorically) then you had better damn well start as well with all the rappers and the WH and their clowns in the DOJ.

The laws infringing on free speech are already in place or didn't you notice?

That is why democracies always fail into a (fascist) dictatorship or totalitarian state, because democracy creates bullies ;-) The US was so much better when it operated as a Republic. Now that it is turning into a socialist democracy (that little retarded sister of Communism) your rule of law has been corrupted by special interest groups and lobbyists to the point where the tail is wagging the dog. Of course the US isn't the only country, it's happening all over and it's not because of paradigm shift in the social norm, it is because of indoctrination and extortion. Any legislation that puts fines and prison time on freedom of speech is extortion, the threat of violence or arbitrary punishment to force a preferred outcome.

The people have every right to speak on that, too.

Though i do think comparing an elected official to an artist is hardly parallel

I didn't say artist, I said rapper, there is a huge difference IMHO ;-) Plus, a town sheriff or police commissioner effects his local area, what, between 1,000 and say 50,000 people.

Again Artists (whether you think it is art or not) serve a totally different function in society then do Civil Servants.

Again, Civil Servants, those we put in authority positions function to maintain civil standards (not so much these days - but that's off topic) expected by all in public stiuations. Artists function to elicit controversy and question the values, more and norms of public society.

Rap certainly elicits a reaction from you - that's what it's supposed to do. I'm not a fan of the misogynistic variety but some rap and hip-hop is quite profound I've found. Some of these artists may be the Dylans and Segers of the day. It took me a long time with a lot of 'suggestions' from young friends to even listen to the stuff - I couldn't understand what the H*** they were even saying - viola - you tube with lyrics solved that problem. I'll never like it, but I can appreciate some of it now.

A lot of the words used are used for shock value - much as Frank Zappa did throughout his career.

Did you divert on purpose, Suzie Creamcheese or are you with the Brain Police, you don't have a sister named D. Hum that likes Dirty Love that was Moving To Montana to raise some dental floss, do you LOL? I've spoken to Gail a few times as well as Michelle ;-) So what was Frank singing about other than sex, crazy humor and government intrusion?

The point was that a police commissioner effects few by comparison to a rapper. The personal opinion of a cop may effect a few people where the personal opinion of a rapper heard nationwide effects millions.

I can see you are just as much a hypocrite as those we are discussing, since you refuse to apply your own set of morals to Obama, when he is guilty of doing the exact same thing as this ("cop" commissioner, whatever the hell he really is) And instead of addressing what I pointed out about how these two clowns (Obama and this guy the thread is about) having both said racist things now, and Obama in the past, You found it more important to tell me that he isn't a cop.. Thank you so much., that incorrect info I had about the white guy could have really messed up my life.. And that for Obama to be a racist he must say or call someone a cracker...Okay, Thanks for the information.

Please, share an example of obama saying something racist. Again, I cant argue a strawman.

I dont defend ANYONE saying something racist. Im not sure how many more times I can say it. I also dont support obama, nor did I vote for him. That doesnt mean im going to bite on political baiting.

But, by all means, continue to try and turn this into a conversation about obama.

I see you are still coming from a place of ignorance on this topic. No one is being fined, imprisoned, or arrested for this. No such laws exist.

Not sure where you are from, but we have a constitution in america that ensures that.

Well, I am going to post my response before reading the rest of the thread. This is beyond ridiculous! The waitress is completely wrong, and needs to mind her own business. A conversation in a restaurant is private, and the chief owes no one an apology. He's entitled to his opinion. No complaints about his job performance? No problem. leave him alone.

We have "comedians" (I don't find most of them amusing at all), various celebrities, and political activists going around making anti-white comments all the time, and they never apologize, or have their positions threatened as a result. The double standard MUST stop. We have a right to free speech, not a right to not be offended!

Ok, so there are no hate speech laws in the US? That's odd, I just did a search HERE and a load information comes up. I guess the search engines like DuckDuckGo which gets its search information from Google must be ignorant too? Go figure...
