This was a horrible video to watch
I saw it on the news the other day..I volunteer at the elementary school my daughter goes to..(she is also in kindergarten)..while her teacher is very sweet..I see others that talk nasty to little kids..are downright mean. I was shocked this year at some of the things going on in the school. Since I am new to this particular school I didn't know how it used to be a few years back. I was told that since the new principal came in things have gotten worse. The kids have no recess beyond the 20 min they get after eating. They get 10 min. to eat..that seems ridiculous to me. My girls come home with 1/2 of the lunch in their lunchboxes. They told me they just don't have time to eat everything..I have complained (a lot of parents have complained) but nothing has been done this year. We are getting ready to move to Texas..so I don't know what I will do next school year..Im just glad they wont be going back to that school.

That is why I sashay in and out of my little ones' schools when I'm least expected.

Stay involved! Moving to a different state really means the same set of issues in a different environment.

Best of luck to you

You all assume that the teacher is the bad one (not that she did was right), but imagine that kid, is not an 'angel', get it.
Imagine him throwing stuff at the teacher during class, cussing or bullying other kids and then left the class by himself to go to the toilet, and then the teacher got fed up with him...

We only know the video, we don't know what happened.

Tel me community, have you never add the urge to slap the demon out of one of these bad mannered kids?

We just know how it ended, not how it started, we can only judge when we know all the story IMO

I've been jacked up by High school teachers for misbehaving.. I see no problem with it when warranted for discipline, which is sorely lacking in schools do to lawyers,, but this child is to young and didn't do anything.

Isn't it funny how bullies flock to jobs with authority.

Perhaps deeper psychological profiling needs to be done for such jobs.

Cops, Teachers, Politicians, etc.

That is a very good analogy in general however i dont think there are alot of teachers like this..i went to school in the 70s/80s and during the whole time i cant recal anything like this personally. That pos should be criminaly charged and the school sued, if that was my child..

Even if this child was misbehaving (I think anyone with kids would acknowledge that not all 5-year-olds are little angels) that still doesn't excuse the teacher's actions, even a little. If the child was behaving to the point where she just couldn't take it, take him to the principal and call the parents and suspend him. Her behavior is disgusting and I hope she suffers more consequences than just an early summer vacation.

I had to respond to your Catholic school story. My mother's parents were uber Catholic, so they sent her to a catholic school for most of her school years. She was left-handed and apparently to the nuns, that's some sort of sign that she's possessed by the devil, so they would beat her left hand so bad that she had no choice but to learn to be right-handed. If she was caught using her left hand, they would beat both of her hands until they bled, and then beat her behind with a wooden paddle. Sad part is that her parents did nothing, even though her father himself was left-handed. I sure hope catholic schools aren't like that today!

If you read my post slowly, you will see that I posted that she did not acted right, which means that the teacher assaulting the kid was bad. I'm just saying that maybe, the kid has something to do for this teachers behavior towards him.
A person does not assaults another without reason, so think a little, it's not that hard

Useing the word "reason" for some reason to me equates a possible excuse for the action..it really doesnt matter if the child is not an angel and did something earlier, and when you say a "person does not assault another"..we are talking a 200lb grown up assaulting a child..this wasnt 2 persons..maybee its just how i perceive your statement.

You know that for any action (bad actions more than good actions) there is usually a trigger, sometimes there aren't, but most of the times there are.

The part where you say 'this wasnt 2 persons', how can that be?
A child is a person, is it not? A child can assault a grown up, or a grown up can assault a child, if the kid threw an eraser at the teacher wouldn't that be called an assault?

I agree that the teacher did not act correctly, in my first post i meant to say that we need to know everything that happened before we throw the first stone, we only know the end up until now.

I agree also that 10 days of punishment is ridiculous, a good teacher must educate the students to use words instead of fists, something that this teacher misses. Corporal punishment should only be used inside the family environment (to some extent, whipping with a belt is obviously too much, but a good slap never killed no one, and i don't mean to beat up a kid i mean, give them a slap and send them to their room with no technology).

I'm not good at explaining myself, but i hope i could clarify what i meant in my first post

There is nothing that will justify that teacher's violence against her student. Nothing. He is a 6 year old child, she is supposed to be the adult. Adults do not bully little children. Ever.

There is a huge difference between punishment and outright assault. A paddling is a long way from snatching up a child and slamming it against a wall.

Punishment is necessary sometimes, but assault isn't..ever.

Unfortunately, things have changed tremendously since you and I attended school and not for the better.

This happens much more often than you would think.

I read your post slowly. As a matter of fact, I read it a second time just to make sure I was reading it correctly.

No matter what that little boy did, there is NO justification for his teacher's violence against him. There are too many open avenues for dealing with unruly children. Assault isn't one of them.

Wow! That teacher either needs to retire now or switch careers and seek anger management counseling. Way to go you big brute, picking on someone so much smaller than you. Teachers are mandatory reporters who are supposed to report abuse/neglect of a minor child and so I'm pretty sure she will be talking to a child protection agency who will then make a determination on this teacher. That determination will hopefully disqualify her from passing a background check to teach again.

My own opinion is that she should have been dismissed immediately.

The parents have turned the video over to their local law enforcement for possible criminal charges. The investigation is projected to be finished Monday, May 19 or Tuesday May 20. After that, the prosecutor gets it.

A petition for the teacher's removal has also been started at Change.Org.

I agree with you on that one. I've heard of stories where kids get escorted out of school by law enforcement and then I see that and wonder why this teacher wasn't accorded the same treatment. At any rate, she needs to get out of teaching because she must not enjoy it too much anymore. It takes patience to teach and teachers have my utmost respect for being able and willing to do that job. I will check out your Change.org link.

I think she has gotten clean away with this sort of behavior in the past. She was entirely too "comfortable" with her actions right out in the hallway.

The only reason she was caught this time was because another staff member saw the video (not sure if it was while it was happening) and spoke out. As I said before, I suspect that video clip would have disappeared had that not happened.
