It's difficult, People fail to realize Christian have questions too, even if many don't admit it, my mother a devout Christian once admitted to me she had questions.

I went on this long spiritual quest, because I had so many questions.

I'm gonna go out and sit in the sun and listen to the music for a while.

It's kind of like saying peacekeeping force. Directly in the name is a contradiction. In terms of philosophy it takes a very set person to be a true atheist. It gets tough to debate the Big Bang, and the very finely tuned universe without using non empirical evidence like multi verse theory etc. There is enough math to see how tuned the whole system is and how extreme pure evolution theory would be to explain how this is. A lot of physicists are more I the deist realm of allowing reason and laws of nature to be the evidence that there is a design tithe universe. Not the same intelligent design the abrahamic faiths try and use to prove the bible over evolution but rather leaving open that these aspects of physical law could be of design. The problem with taking religion out of schools is they don't replace it with philosophy. There are lots of handbooks for life that directly apply to reason like Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative, Locke,Roseau, fuller etc.

Personally I believe pure atheism to be just the opposite of theism. Which to me (no truth) it seems just as absurd as some abrahamic superstitions.

I once heard a great debate between a thirst and an atheist over the multiverse. When the physicist/atheist was done explaining his computer model showing after the third multiverse was created the laws of physics through random action started forming out of purely the raw materials evolution. At the end of the presentation the theist physicist (Einstein was a theist) said simply "how did this program come to be,...did you create it or did you wait for a random group of molecules to produce the results you wanted." That was the beginning of a great debate (In which both sides conceded it impossible to prove either sides point).

Most people assume theists are brainless southern bible thumping in-breads but, it's just not true. Several Jesuit priests have made enormous scientific breakthroughs in physics and genetics.

As I listen to the song, I understand surrender.

If It moves you, if it touches you somewhere deep in your spirit, you understand surrender, you cry, you dance, you feel joy, you let go of all the burdens of this world if only for a little while.

It's all good.

You can walk in that state of mind,it gives you a strength that surpasses understanding, a peace, I have, I would like to get back there.

I wonder if surrender helps one spiritually, it has been proven that prayer and meditation help one physically and mentally, I wonder about surrender and worship.

Dr. Norvel Hayes was taught by God Himself on how to properly worship Him.

The Lord told him once that: 'My church is sadly lacking. And they are lacking because they don't worship me.'

Several years ago I was driving down the road just minding my own business when the Spirit of God came upon me. He comes upon me in some of the most unusual places! Then He said to me, "Son, the church is sadly lacking." I said, "What do you mean, 'sadly lacking'?" "Well," He said, "My children basically love me, but they live in poverty and sickness and defeat. They don't live in heaven's blessings because they don't worship me enough." "You said that right, Lord," I said, "in fact I know whole congregations who don't spend any time worshiping You at all. The pastors don't ever say, 'Let's worship God for a while just because He's God.' They just teach the people to go to church, sing a few songs and listen to a song or two sung by the choir, but they don't really worship You."

Then He said to me, "And neither do you." All I could say was, "Is that right?" He continued, "You're going around the country teaching My Word. You're teaching faith and confession. You're praying for the sick, but you need to worship Me more, and you need to teach My people to worship Me more. I'm their God, and they're My children. If you'll teach my children to worship Me more, I'll do great and mighty things for them." By this time I was weeping. Every time the Lord tells me I'm a flake and I've missed it, I always repent and weep. Worship - unleashing the supernatural power of god in your life

In the Bible, when people wanted to hear God's Voice directly, they spent hours (sometimes days) on their faces before God worshiping and praising Him. Sometimes, but not always, they fasted. Reverend Hayes takes you through scripture and reveals that the proper atmosphere in which God speaks and moves is one of BIBLICAL praise and worship. Acts 13:1-2 states, "Now there were in the church that was in Antioch certain prophets and teachers...as they ministered (praise and worship) to the Lord, and fasted, THE HOLY GHOST SAID, 'Separate Me Barnabas and Saul for the work where unto I have called them.' "

Now notice, they did three things: They came together with other believers. They praised God. They fasted. And what happened? God SPOKE to them. In Matthew 16:21-28 a woman comes to Jesus and wants her sick daughter healed. Jesus ignores her and refuses to talk to her. Then she comes to Him again, and it says "Then came she AND WORSHIPED Him, saying, Lord, help me" and Jesus delivers her daughter.

Praise and worship is the Biblically proper way to approach God. Psalms 100:4 tells us how to approach God: Have thanksgiving in your heart, and praise, express your thanks to Him, and bless His Holy Name. The reason? Because His Mercy endures FOREVER!

God told Norvel Hayes the church is sadly lacking. We do not worship Him enough. You have to get alone in the privacy of your home and get on your knees and just worship Jesus, telling Him how much you love Him and appreciate Him. So I did. And after a few weeks, suddenly, God began to speak. The first time God spoke to me He warned me a person's life was in danger. I thought I was just hearing voices, so I ignored it. Later, the very person God had mentioned almost died. I repented and vowed to believe and obey when He speaks.

After a while, Jesus began to appear to me. He would just walk in my room like an ordinary person and sit and talk to me. This happened every day at 6 PM on the dot. I would often tell a Christian woman at my work place what He said. She would always says, "Oh, that's Romans Chapter 8" or "That's Timothy the 2nd chapter," or "That's John Chapter 7." I told the Lord, "What is she talking about?" He told me to look in my Bible. The Bible is separated into books, each book has a title, each chapter and verse has a number. Hence, John 3:16 is John (the Gospel) the third chapter, the 16th verse: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoseover believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." I looked it up. He was right.

The very next day 6 PM came and no Lord. I waited till 6:05 and began to wonder. At 06:07 I began to pray. God spoke to me and said, "You have no need I appear to you. You now know all I ever did say and ever will say is what the Bible says. The Bible is My Holy Word. It is YOUR responsibility to read the Bible and find out what it says."

To this day, if I have a vision or appearance, and IT DOESN'T AGREE WITH THE BIBLE, I reject it. Period. God stays in line with the Holy Word. Jesus Himself said the scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35, Matthew 5:18.) If you want God to speak to you, read your Bible. The Bible IS God talking to you. And yes, stick with the 1611 King James version. Spend time in praise and worship so you can discern what the Bible is saying.

I love all those things too. I think of them as very natural. I am in awe of nature and real science. I do not agree with calling that feeling spritual but that is just me. Im kind of a hardliner when it comes to this subject.
For me, these things already have names.

Spirituality can be invoked by anything. Humans have a way to give purpose to everything, they give tress a purpose, they give water a purpose..., they try to define and name these... it just their way of understanding, trying to fit it into human concept... i see these things beyond names.

Spirituality in my opinion is raw nature, be it the universe or a minuscule life in a drop of water.

So to call it spiritual seems like redefining to fit some kind of preconceived idea.

lol religion does exactly that. They take something existed, rename it, assign a character and call it god. I go back beyond that, before human even started defining these things.

when i look at tree in a spiritual sense, i don't see a tree.

I guess what I am trying to say is, do you find the teaching of great masters inspirational?

It might be just me, but i don't "pray" or look up to anything human or with human characteristics. In a spiritual sense of course.

I agree 100%, BUT....you aren't allowed to ask the tough ones.
( that's Blasphemy)

Imagine growing up Catholic then deciding to add critical thinking to what you were taught. Major mind f$#k.
I am happy at the level of belief I have and If I started a church teaching what I think I would have a congregation of 1.
For some reason, the older I get, the more confused I get about "the big picture", which I think it why the big religions don't like you to question anything. It keeps it simple.

That's sickening. All the more so because people actually pay heed to it. If someone asks you to worship them, they probably aren't the sort of person you should be worshipping. Only narcissists and egomaniacs are interested in being worshipped, and neither are worthy of it.

Let me try and share my experience of surrender and worship, it takes you into a different realm, opens awareness, timelessness, ecstasy,

Music, dance, like the Sufi mystics or the shaman.

Try it sometime, you just want to stay in that sacred place,

You can try.

I've seen this demonstrated first hand while working in audio reinforcement for several years.

Music can help create an atmosphere that can change things...

Years ago I heard Norvel Hayes say something that I've never forgotten:

"...the Spirit of the Lord spoke to me and said this: "I work through atmospheres..."

Many times I saw a profound change in the atmosphere when certain types of music were played.

Usually when the music would have a certain flow or the absence of any beat.

storm,

i think constantly using the word "spiritual" is what is confusing you. that implies religion or supernatural.

its like theists always try to catch us in trick wording. like if we believe in a higher/collective consciousness beyond our current lives, we may as well believe in a creator or after life.
those are not the same things.

Well, you've made up your own definition. In the actual definition of atheist, an afterlife is not mentioned.

First, I am one who believes everything is energy. That physical is a creation of thought.

I believe "creation" of life began when energy from the creation (Big Bang) of the universe evolved into consciousness. Consciousness thought awareness.

There are many planets that formed long before earth. I believe original physical life forms with consciousness began on these early planets, not on earth.

I believe our universe is teeming with beings and mirrors earth in politics, conquering territories, power struggles, etc.

I believe the War in Heaven was a real war between competing powers over control of earth. I believe those/myths we consider GODS were real beings, far older in existence then earth/humans. I also believe there is intervention good and bad (example: how humans vary in there approach to indigenous people. Some support zero contact, some support some, some exploit).

That being said: I AM NOT DEBATING MY BELIEF ABOVE IN THIS THREAD. IT IS SIMPLY BACKGROUND SUPPORTING MY SPRITUAL ATHEISM.

I absolutely do not believe in a literal religious god. I absolutely do not believe we live to appease an all knowing creator of humans.

I do believe in addition to our individual physical being is an individual energy consciousness that is part of the collective from the first evolved energy consciousness.

I do believe each person is solely responsible in how their energy consciousness affects the whole (each a ripple in the same pond).

So my basis for atheist spirituality is an energy collective consciousness. How one thinks, acts, evolves, affects everything.

Officially loving this thread.. I actually have been flirting with 'Spiritual Atheism' for about 2 years but have just recently within the last year kind of stopped being scared I was going to hell lol.

Since I was 15, I was looking for God. Yeah, Yahweh. God of hide and seek. Turns out he has quite the history and is previously known as El Shaddai and Elohim. I was never devout because I always had questions that nobody had answers to. So I found them myself. My journey lead me to Gnosticism and even Wiccan witchcraft on some fronts. I was clearly lost.

Then I found this thing called Hermeticism. Which encompasses the teachings of Hermes aka Thoth. This is where the New Age really gets their ideas from and I can see why. It is truly brilliant in all aspects.

The main idea of Hermeticism is similar to 'Spiritual Atheism' that there is a 'thing' called, "The All". The All is simply, everything. You and me from the ant on the ground to the most celestial object in space. The Universe in respect. As stated in the OP, there is nothing external to The All (the Universe) and can be referred to as 'God' or anything else. There are laws to The All (The Universe) and they are regarded as the secrets of secrets (and possibly of more secrets) to the Universe. Everything that happens is meant to happen.

I won't post the laws and more in depth detail because I don't want to come across as though I'm trying to convert others to Spiritual Atheism, haha. I'm simply relating to the OP.

This is a bit off topic:

While looking into Hermeticism, I found that it is a root of many religion, ideas, witchcraft, and even secret societies such as Freemasonry. Many people have never heard of hermetics, but after much study.. it is seen all over society. So for those who like a good conspiracy, it's worth just reading up on in that regard alone.

That's the way I understand it. If you (or "the atheist") had any doubts about either, then they would be put in the agnostic box. But that's why I put the wimpy disclaimer (IMHO) at the end.
