Ok I thought long and hard and it's taken a while to finish this Thread...
Hopefully it doesn't take up too much of people's time to share your personal favourites!!!

I was going to limit it to HipHop but then realised that would leave people out who would also like to share their favourite Lyricists!!!

I'll keep the narrative short and sweet and get straight into it so you can listen to some new, or closely held classics we will all hopefully divulge to ATS!!!
I was going to add a "why" subtopic but thought it's best to let the lyrics do he talking!!!

This is not to limit others if they'd like to say why they have certain favourites, all input is welcome!!!

So, in no particular order, here goes...

Nas - If Heaven Was A Mile Away!!!

"How can they do the Devils work...
A man gives another man # in church...
Hell it hurts just to fathom the thought, wishing that I fled the Earth!"

Big Pun - Capital Punishment (feat Prospect)!!!

Big Pun - "The streets are deadly & everybody's a desperado...
'I guess tomorrow ain't promised unless you're homaged in death' is the motto!"

Bob Marley - Zion Train!!!

Bob Marley - "Don't gain the World & lose your Soul...
Wisdom is better than Silver & Gold!"

Tupac & Scarface - Smile!!! (Both Artists)

Scarface - "& as you head to the tunnel's light...
I hope it leads, to eternal life!"

Damien Marley & Nas - Patience!!! (Both Artists)

Damien Marley - "Solomonic lineage what they still can't defeat & them could've never cloned...
My Spiritual DNA that prints in my Soul & I will forever own!"

There is many more I could've & will probably share!!!

But I won't hog the page up!!!

Peace everybody!!!

I'm not answering your question as I can't commit to something like that.

I just wanted to leave you with this. Judging by the songs you posted, I think you'll like it. Pretty great lyrics.

Tim Armstrong & Lars Frederickson of Rancid
I threw in a couple political songs, since this is a conspiracy site and all.

I'm going to show my age and say that Simon and Garfunkel were some of the best. They're songs had meaning when you read the words and they had some really pretty melodies to go with them.

My first thought was Leonard Cohen so I'll go with that. Here's one of his newer(ish) ones. His stuff when he was young was pretty crazy but definitely had some diamonds in those albums.

Baby, I've been waiting,
I've been waiting night and day.
I didn't see the time,
I waited half my life away.
There were lots of invitations
and I know you sent me some,
but I was waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

I know you really loved me.
but, you see, my hands were tied.
I know it must have hurt you,
it must have hurt your pride
to have to stand beneath my window
with your bugle and your drum,
and me I'm up there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Ah I don't believe you'd like it,
You wouldn't like it here.
There ain't no entertainment
and the judgements are severe.
The Maestro says it's Mozart
but it sounds like bubble gum
when you're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Waiting for the miracle
There's nothing left to do.
I haven't been this happy
since the end of World War II.

Nothing left to do
when you know that you've been taken.
Nothing left to do
when you're begging for a crumb
Nothing left to do
when you've got to go on waiting
waiting for the miracle to come.

I dreamed about you, baby.
It was just the other night.
Most of you was naked
Ah but some of you was light.
The sands of time were falling
from your fingers and your thumb,
and you were waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come

Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.
Yeah let's do something crazy,
something absolutely wrong
while we're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Nothing left to do ...

When you've fallen on the highway
and you're lying in the rain,
and they ask you how you're doing
of course you'll say you can't complain.
If you're squeezed for information,
that's when you've got to play it dumb:
You just say you're out there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Of course... I could list off a ton more but I surprised myself when I thought of him first so I'm sticking to it today.

Who's my favorite? Take a guess.

The main reason I think was that Taupin/John songs were the first one's I heard on the radio that really caught my attention. WLS AM in Chicago played "Burn Down The Mission" one day, I think I was 8, and I wanted to hear more. This one sealed the deal though:

F***in blondes, they'll be the death of me I swear.

Bob Marley, K'Naan, Eminem, and Andre 3000 are my top.

They are all lyrical geniuses to my ears, and all speak to me in ways I can't even describe, all their songs and lyrics I have listened too over, and over and can in some way relate too. Especially Bob and K'naan. But runners up in my mind as Freddy Mercury (Queen), Meat loaf, and Mumford and Sons.

Lou Reed. The Urban poet.
David Bowie...hardly any musician retains relevance for half as long. A Bard.
Trent Reznor...deeper than it looks on paper
Billy Corgan...usually lets his guitars do the talking, but raw emotion and genius shine through his works.

OYSTERHEAD- "The Grand Pecking Order"

In the grand pecking order where is it you stand?
Under the foot of swollen bastards or on the neck of another man?
At the grand eating table are you sitting near the head?
Or in the corner by the bathroom where you're asked to pass the bread?
And you pass it with a smile on your face for to pout about would only bring disgrace
To The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order
To The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order
In the grand pecking order where is it you lie?
Are you the tall hog at the trough or a piglet in the stye?
On the grand ladder of life are you near the highest rung?
Or somewhere near the bottom with your nose in hairy bung?
And you sniff it with a smile on your face for to pout about would only bring disgrace
To The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order
To The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order

And you're dancing with a smile on your face, for to stand about would only bring disgrace
To The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order, The Grand Pecking Order,,,
