(Reuters) - Thousands of Vietnamese set fire to foreign factories and rampaged in industrial zones in the south of the country in an angry reaction to Chinese oil drilling in a part of the South China Sea claimed by Vietnam, officials said on Wednesday.

While everyone has been focused on Ukraine things are starting to heat up in Asia after the POTUS visit where support for Japan and the Philippians was stated during the American policy speech.

The row over the South China Sea and anti-China violence in tightly-controlled Vietnam have brought relations between Hanoi and Beijing to one of their lowest points since the Communist neighbors fought a brief border war in 1979.

I had an old Iranian friend tell me once all wars are for money and or oil... Well the south china sea supposedly has oil and gas..

Anti-China sentiment was also evident in Manila, as the Philippine government accused Beijing of reclaiming land on a reef in disputed islands in another part of sea, apparently to build an airstrip.

"If these reports are true, this would represent a significant step by the Chinese, potentially allowing them to extend their airborne reach," said Storey, the analyst.
The spike in tensions over the oil- and gas-rich South China Sea comes two weeks after U.S. President Barack Obama visited the region and expressed support for long-time allies Japan and the Philippines, both of which are locked in territorial disputes with China. Vietnam is also stepping up ties with the United States.

The reported building of a disputed island airstrip should be a concern for all parties who are against China's claim of territory. So far China is not backing down in the region regardless of The USA's attempts to reinforce ties in the region.

We're getting all the Chinese involvement here and in Vietnam, the people said NO Loud and Clear!

The whole area i being forced to choose sides. I have read several different articles posted by expats and locals about some of the behind the scenes stuff that is trying to sway both public and governmental attitudes.. It is not just S.E. Asia but basically the whole world.

Caravan to Midnight with John B. Wells brought a interesting tidbit to the fore.. John said (according to the Guardian) that Putin and Kissinger have and do meet on a regular basis and dear old Henry even received an honorary P.H.D. from some educational institute in Russia. Russia may say one thing but they have no problem borrowing form the IMF to the tune of billions.. Goldman Sachs was all over Ukraine and even offered their services for free before much of the stuff went cacca in the region.. Just happenstance or more of the fund both sides and make money scenario.

In other words, Thaksin Shinawatra represents the antithesis of what the West, and the United States in particular, claims to stand for. Their use of these principles and the facade of “democracy” to perpetuate Thaksin Shinawatra’s grip on Thai politics reveals the true purpose of what could be considered the West’s “democracy racket.” It is a veil behind which the West advances its otherwise unpalatable agenda.

I used to never see articles like this but more and more people seem to be discussing what is there to gain and what is there to lose with ties to the global PTB. Time after time we have read how America's foreign policy has staged a coop or financed and installed a strong man who the states could deal with and if the locals got screwed so be it. Believe what you want I just find many of the isolated global sentiments about the global community power (TPTB) structure interesting.

China Deploys Submarine Near Vietnam Oil Rig, 86 Vessels Now Present
