We do that for eons! We have "holy books" where it's said they're written by god/gods and entire societies are living by them.

My friend has stayed in NZ several times doing rafting guide crap (I don't tell him it's crap), but he did say it was cool that when he tore his rotater cuff that the hospital just took a percentage of his weekly pay and the rest was gold--well therapy and drinking beer..
