The affair only lasted a few hours.Members of the Red Cross arrested Friday in Donetsk, stronghold of of pro-Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine, have been freed, announced Irina Tsariouk, an official of the organization, on Saturday, 10 May, in Kiev.

"A team... of the local Red Cross and a member of the International Red Cross had been arrested. They are all free at present," she declared, specifying that the representative of the International Red Cross was a Swiss national. "According to the best information available to us, they were freed last night around two o' clock and one of them had been severely beaten," she said. "We do not know by whom they were detained." Later on Saturday, a spokesperson for the pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk declared that members of the team had been arrested due to suspicion of espionage.

This sends a clear message that independent observers are not welcome in separatist controlled areas. One can only speculate why a group of paramilitary rebels, matching the description of "partisans" in the Geneva Convention, would not wish the Red Cross observing their actions.

The Geneva Convention died a long time ago. It was about the time that the US and their Western allies decided that changing a soldiers status from 'Soldier' to 'Terrorist' or 'Enemy Combatant' allowed them to bypass the convention and use such places as Guantanamo Bay with the associated torture techniques specifically outlawed by the Geneva Convention.

Your source for this post is, shall we say, questionable with lots and lots of ??????????.

Lastly, the Red Cross is a great place to hide intel gathering and has been for a very long time. I thought it had been overused so much that everyone had stopped playing that card. Obviously someone didn't get the memo.

If you are going to make a statement like this you are going to have to provide examples.

Not much of a response to this development. It is almost as if the pro-Russia crowd is afraid to bump it.

World wide, intel agencies put operatives into Red Cross, without their knowledge, and can then go places they otherwise would have problems getting into.

This sort of thing dates all the way back to WW2 when Red Cross care packages contained all sorts of goodies to help prisoners escape. It is very well documented. All done directly under the Red Cross' noses.

How obvious can we get. The article is designed to mold our minds into believing that the problems are caused by "pro-Russians" (mentioned twice) but in fact also claims that--

"We do not know by whom they were detained."

And look how low the (unnamed "pro- Russians") will stoop. They even pick on the Red Cross--

Members of the Red Cross arrested Friday in Donetsk, stronghold of pro-Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine…

…a spokesperson for the pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk declared that members of the team had been arrested due to suspicion of espionage.

People that detain, beat and level false accusations against members of the Red Cross are not "pro-Russian separatists". They are the same ones that burn tires, people and shoot unarmed citizens. Their nest is in Kiev.

Nice try blaming ordinary Ukrainians and Russians for that.

See thru the veil.

very interesting bit of info, and would explain why they may have been taken hostage. Researching this should make for an interesting morning read.

Again, some documentation would be nice. I find it hard to believe that the Red Cross would assist allied prisoners, given that, despite their "neutrality," Switzerland was essentially part of the Reich. They refused to help Jewish refugees prior to and during the War, yet they expedited the relocation of Nazis to Latin America. Given their history, I can understand why the pro-Russia partisans might suspect the Red Cross of espionage, but not the pro-German factions in Kiyev.

Much as I hate to admit it, the Bush Administration did not violate the Geneva Convention in Afghanistan. The prisoners taken in Afghanistan were not in uniform, and therefore not covered. Likewise, the militants in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea are not covered by the convention unless they wear their national colors and/or uniform.

What part of "All done directly under the Red Cross' noses" didn't you understand.

Mate, I am more than helpful when someone is trying to understand and learn. But that is not the case here. I suggest, if you truly want to learn, that YOU do some honest to goodness research for once. It is not too difficult. When people give you resources to read and learn from, you inevitably throw it back in their faces.

I will not play your game. Do your own research!

First off, please remove the link in your post. You placed it there in my quote, not me. It is misleading and an affront.

In answer to your question:

It doesn't matter where it happened. They weren't "captured" or "arrested" either. More like kidnapped and intimidated. They are there to help and are being singled out for that reason in an effort to drive them out.

TPTB are orchestrating an effort to disrupt and subjugate a nation, they won't allow any genuine help (like the red cross) from outside at this time.

Take a lesson from other countries like Iraq and Libya. They are a mess, much worse than before they were "democratized". By intent. That same process is only just beginning in Ukraine. Before it is done the whole country will become one big atrocity.

The only link in my reply to your post was added automatically by the new BBS system. I'm not quite sure why you consider it an affront.
