Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon�s coalition government may be on the verge of collapse. If it does indeed collapse, the planned Gaza pullout could be in jeopardy. Sharon lost his majority moths ago, and has been dependant on cooperation by the Labour party to stay in power. However one of his coalition partners, the Shinui Party, has indicated that it may pull out. If that happens and a vote of no confidence is passed, early elections would take place. The latest dispute has come over the proposed 2005 budget. If the plan fails to pass by March 31, Sharon government automatically falls. The Shinui Party is upset by Sharon�s agreement to give 98 million dollars woth of funds to two religious parties for their support on the budget.

JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was set on a collision course Monday with his most loyal coalition partner, the Shinui Party, raising prospects of early elections that could postpone an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Sharon has been walking a political tightrope since he lost his parliamentary majority several months ago, with hard-liners bolting over his plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and four West Bank settlements in 2005.

In Gaza fighting, Israeli troops killed two Palestinians in separate incidents late Sunday, including a physician who witnesses said was sitting in his garden when he was hit by shrapnel from an Israeli tank shell.

Sharon's coalition problems heightened this week because he needs to get his 2005 state budget approved in parliament.

The opposition Labor Party � which had provided a parliamentary safety net to Sharon because it supports his plan of "disengagement" from the Palestinians � announced last week that it won't vote for the 2005 budget. Labor opposes the budget because of cuts in social spending.

It seems that every time Israel gets close to making a stab at a peace process, the government falls and we start all over again. The change in Palestinian leadership represents our best opportunity to establish at the very least a hold on the escalating tension and maybe even a workable peace in Gaza and the West bank. Don�t hold your breath though. Benjamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister, and ultra right wing conservative may be planning a comeback. No doubt he will work hard to scuttle any agreements and we will be faced with more violence and chaos.

this proves alot that the israeli goverment dont take a s**t about the roadmap to peace since the west wing always do this.

first it was the palistinian leadership that was blamed for the failures of the peace treaty,
and now its the israeli goveremnt because they are hell bent on not giving back land

I wonder if is hatred what is keeping the Israeli leader from peace, it seems that all he wants is instigate violence with his actions.

Sharons past history reads like used toilet paper. From the masacres in Lebanon to agressive settlement push. However, he has put his political life on the line with this one and if the setlers would step back and look at the situation its a total win for the Isrealis from a land grab standpoint. They really give up little and consoladate a huge chunk of territory. its actually a bad deal for the Palestinians.

JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has approached the opposition Labor Party with a tentative offer to join his shaky coalition, in hopes of avoiding early elections and saving his Gaza withdrawal plan, Labor officials said Tuesday.

The contacts were Sharon's latest attempt to extricate himself from an ongoing coalition crisis over the 2005 state budget and his plan to pull out of Gaza and four West Bank settlements next year. Labor's inclusion in the government would greatly improve Sharon's chances of going ahead with the withdrawal.

Sharon lost a parliamentary majority in the summer, when hawkish supporters quit over the Gaza plan. His troubles grew this week when the secular-rights Shinui Party, his biggest coalition partner, threatened to pull out of the government over budget concessions to religious parties.

Following thier failure to support his 2005 budget, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, called the Shinui party to his office and dismissed them from his coaliton. He now must make a pact with the rival Labor party or he will be unable to pass his budget or put down any no confidence votes.

Sharon dismissed the Shinui party shortly after it defied him by voting against the 2005 state budget in a first reading in parliament, and aides said he would immediately approach the center-left Labour Party to prevent his government's collapse.
