the biggest being that there isn't enough money for it, and that there is little point in doing so.

Now having a station located near the moon, in a lagrange point of some sort, has purpose... it would be an excellent place for a refueling station

project horizon was proposed long long ago the moon has been occupied since not long after that, the moon began being mined many new man made materials were created from products and production on the moon...

You see the Army went to space first and did very well so well indeed... By the time NASA got there after being created by those who realized they were incredibly greedy and wanted to keep things all for themselves the findings had them advanced beyond even what is considered science fiction today... So when NASA did get to the moon which took the help of said advancements there was some pretty pissed off Neil and Buzz... lives were lost along the way for a good many years to keep this secret be sure of that and connect the dots to solve some of the big questions...

Will we ever have moon bases in our life time? Sometimes pieces come out in the media that this country and that country aiming to make a moon base or colonize the moon.
I would love to think that someday we'll be staring at the earth from our homes on the moon while drink a cold beer. With all the tension currently on earth, I can't see it happening for a while yet. 2030 seems about right, but times change and budgets change.
The world 16 years ago was a totally different place.

A joint venture between ALL the scientists on the planet would be amazing and we could achieve so much. We can only dream though.

The fuel from water is liquid Hydrogen and Liquid Oxygen (LOX).

LOX and Liquid Hydrogen were used in the upper stages of the shuttle, Saturn and Delta Rockets.

When these sanctions kick in over ukraine his will not happen, russia no longer has the capability to do these type of missions internally, muh of the space industry is corrupt and inefficient, nothing like Japanese or Chinese tech. The chinese will do this, they are the only ones with the funds and the scope to pull off such an audacious attempt. America no longer has the money or balls to do this sort of thing, and after sanctions kick in i guaruntee 100% this will not happen in russia.

They will be dealing with inablity to make bond servicing payments, not building spacecraft, there will probably be an embargo on trade of such parts between europe/US and Russia.

I think this is just more pie in the sky to distract russian people from the reality russia is going to get hit hard by sanctions, another conveniently timed distraction, much like the "fascists" (some of whom are actually jewish) to rally against in Ukraine.

Feel sorry for the Russian people, a massive number are dirt poor and they are about to get hit hard.
