Nothing says fun quite like a scenic and informative flight:

Apologies if this has already been posted.

Fun is probably NOT the word I'd use here, but...

More like HOLY SHBT!

CH-46 catches fire on LHD. Guy films the fire from INSIDE the helicopter.

And that would be why supersonic flight over land is a Bad Thing.

The circumstances behind this three part video aren't clear. It was shot in 2011, and pretty much speaks for itself.

Dug around in the YouTube comments, turns out I didn't need google translate.

+malyy5 @malyy5 The plane was made in 1982. Was in operation until 2005. 29th april 2011 the pilots were ordered to fly it to Samara for repairs. Due to imidiate breakage of automatic control system (АБСУ) right after the take-off the plane lost almost all controls. Pilots had to use the engines in order to make right or left turns. They are true professionals. My bow to them!

+Аркадий Флитман @arflit Pilots are Heroes. First pilot - the commander of a squadron Juriy Rodionov - maked a miracle, he injected plane to the Runway and has landed, use only direction wheel and management of capacity of engines.

Excuse me for my English.

This video appears to be new to me, and it is one of the better one's i've seen in an A310

PS I was unsure if it's possible to embed liveleak videos here. Any help with that?

On that note, here's an oldie but a goodie:

youtu.be...

For some reason, seeing airliners flying at anything approaching cruising speeds at low altitudes always reminds me of the part in Prometheus when Idris Elba activates the FTL engines in the planet's atmosphere to kamikaze the Engineer/Space Jockey and his ship.

We all sort of take for granted just how fast your average airliner can go, but it's no less mind-warping to see one hitting those speeds "on the deck", and it feels damned near unnatural to watch.

Liaoning flight ops.

After seeing CATOBAR operations it just doesn't seam right seeing them slowly work their way off the end of the ramp.

I know they were a while back while doing her shake down. Not sure if they are still on board or not, everyone I could see in the video were Chinese.

Will be a huuuge learning curve for the Chinese pilots learning to dance on the deck at night time..

They even did the "sunrise over the bustling flattop while the crews ready the aircraft" bit.

Someone needs to edit it and set the footage to "highway to the danger zone" at half-speed

That was the fourth time the studio fired Tony Scott. They got their hands on the opening and fired him for it being too artsy.

And yet, both the Art History major and the 10 year-old kid in me recognize what he filmed as one of the greatest opening sequences of all time.

That part right before the music changes where the F110's throttle up right before they get the signal to launch still gives me goosebumps.

Such a magnificent piece of engineering, that aircraft was.
