Proof that having the storm troopers enforce the 2 minute limit works.
No one wants to go to jail.
That is why I will not be surprised to see some gun owners turning in their guns when their respective state governments tell them that they have to do it.

If the people at that meeting would have been lucid enough, everyone should have started speaking out at the same time and ask to be arrested too.

People need to grow some balls.

That guy is going to sue and win a settlement, because a law officer doesn't understand the 1st amendment of the constitution.

Im curious what law was broken? Disorderly conduct usually is the go to law when cops dont know what to do but there has to be a victim...

During the arrest he officer did explain to his best recollection, that the 48th amendment does not allow for people to speak for more than two minutes.

I saw the book online and it's certainly not suitable for most 9th graders, much less as advertised "Ages 10 and up"


On the other hand, teens these days have better sources on sexual content, mainly the internet. Not uncommon to find out teenyboppers around 17-18 yo kids.

I am against all forms of censorship, its just a book, if anything the parent should of questioned the merits of having a book on school shootings in school.

After the shooting, Peter is sent to jail while the trial proceeds. The probable cause hearing is waived as Peter admits to killing ten people and wounding nineteen others. Jordan, Peter's defense attorney, uses battered person syndrome caused by severe bullying and abuse as a basis to convince the jury that Peter’s actions were justified as a result of his suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Jordan argues that he was in a dissociative state at the time of the shooting. In the final stage of the trial, Josie reveals that she was the one who shot Matt the first time after grabbing a gun that fell out of Peter's bag. He was abusive. Peter later fired the fatal second shot. Peter promised her he wouldn't tell anyone what she had done, and he kept this promise, happy to have Josie as his friend again.

Peter is convicted of eight counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder (manslaughter) and is sentenced to life in prison. A month afterward, Peter commits suicide by stuffing a sock into his throat.

I won't post it here because I feel it's too graphic to post here, and I absolutely agree with this man
that I wouldn't want this as a reading assignment for my 14 yr old, and the fact that the school assigned
this without parental knowledge is beyond me.

I can't understand how they can ban classic books in schools, but it's ok replace them with this???

I don't think most people would have been as calm as this man in the same situation.

What a great point.

My bet is on the goal being inducing/capitalizing on existant PTSD. Among adults it happens, but with kids it is far more frequent that works of fiction can create trauma. Yes, it sounds stupid....but its true.

We have this need to always be worried and in fear of something. We love passing it on to our children, too. My mom used to wake me up in the middle of the night, crying, and make me promise to not "get on the crack". She had watched 1 too many TV specials where the module of fear was uploaded into her mindset.

Unfortunately we are a fear based and fear driven society, but I agree with your statements.

Examples.

Pay the bills, or your power gets shut.

Have health insurance, or you can't get medical care.

Have a job, or society coins people losers and worthless.

Keep your grass cut a certain length or pay a fine.

Park in a certain spot and feed the meter or get a ticket.

and on and on.

Well, after his night in jail. He should sue each individual of the school board, the police officer for wrongful imprisonment and cruel and unusual punishment, and then the city for allowing these actions to take place. Oh and if he does this all by himself don't forget to include your litigation fees and expenses incurred. Hope he does it himself because there's more money to be made.

Sorry, but by the looks of things, the guy had his say and it was time to move along to the next person. I participate in (and conduct) a lot of public meetings, and there are rules that make sure everyone has their say, and that things proceed in an orderly manner. Otherwise, nothing gets done and you're just left with a shouting match. The guy has lots of opportunity to make his feelings known...but in that venue, he had his turn until he's recognised by the Chair once again.

This is not a freedom of speech issue, no matter how much one might agree with the original premise of the guy's argument. It's 'Robert's Rules of Order'.
