I live in Essex, in England. In our local town centre, there is a gentlemans barbers called "Cut-U-Up". It appeals to the chav mentality.

The two coffee shops that I rate in town however, are called Utopia, and The Corner House. Utopia has a sort of hipster vibe, with prints of city scapes and film stars on the walls, and reclaimed sewing tables as their outdoor tables, not to mention some friendly and efficient staff. It offers various grilled panninis and iced drinks also. The choice of teas and coffees available is staggering, and in my opinion, chosen better than the options available at Starbucks and the like.

The Corner House is run by the nicest folk I ever met in my life, and has a more breakfast and lunch focused marketing strategy, offering cooked meals ranging from English Breakfasts, to burgers, to jacket potatos and the like. Its surrounds are of the typical British greasy spoon style, although the quality of their food and drink is much higher than such a description would indicate.

Cut-U-Up, is run by a hulking great no necked monster, who likes to stand outside his store and glare at people until someone comes in, presumably after his concentrated mind hack has taken effect. He offers various "tribal" style cuts, with designs cut into the hair around the sides and back of the head, or for the full on urban warrior, whole head motiffs. I have not much use for a barber, since I like to wear my hair long. However, upon passing the location, I have often heard the manager, and his staff, laughing and cussing at, or with their customers, and generally showing all the understanding of customer services that your average broken telephone box usually displays.

Oh, man.

Tell me about... wait... you just did. Hm.

I wonder how many non-franchise coffee shops are called "mean bean" ugh. The worst hair salon name I ever seen though, and this is the honest truth, was the "Hairport" IT WASN'T EVEN NEAR AN AIRPORT!!! I went by the place for nearly a year and it never failed to irk the ish out of me. I mean, c'mon! The Hairport! Gah!

Are these shops privately owned or just Star Bucks in disguise?

Hi everyone!

I always imagine that there is a story behind a business name.
My daughter and I talked about opening a little coffee-house/bistro, and would call it "The Screaming Bean".
Why?
It's a loooong story, but it makes total sense to us.
We even hook up for coffee dates, and ask each other if we have time for some 'screaming bean'.

There is probably a reason for whatever name is chosen, we just don't always know what that is.

I have to step up and say that I think a lot of them are cute.

Besides that, it is a great marketing tool. See how you guys remembered the names of all those places? It works.

I bet not a whole lot of people remember the names of the stores located on either side of those coffee shops nearly as well. It's kind of like those PC Matic commercials that make me want to gouge my ears out when he says "PC Matic" for the 26th time. It definitely sticks and I can also remember the number that I have never had the need to dial.

It is highly annoying, but it's like a bug in your ear.

Remembered, yes.

Patronized? The mental anguish was far to brutal to forgive. Never.

I am quite the cynic, however.
