WH Climate Report: Sea Level Could Rise 8 Inches, 11 Inches, 4 Feet, or 6.6 Feet

The issue here is misdirection.

For starters, we need only look back in history to see there was massive changes to our climate (more than once) Therefore, the focus and investment shouldn't be in changing our bad habits it should be on survival at this point. Trying to "fix" what we broke and what we think we broke at this point is throwing good money after bad. I'm not saying we shouldn't change our ways but we really shouldn't be just now trying to learn to pee in the potty while a cherry bomb sits lit within.

It's not like we are just learning about the things we did and think we did to our climate. We've known a LONG time about pollution and we didn't care, we just decided to kick the problem down the road to our children. Great job there, and thank you for that. (myself included).

We need to understand what could happen and will likely happen. Historical records is a good start and find the most extreme situation, whether globally arid or a worldwide tundra and PREPARE to exist in such conditions without having to sacrifice millions or billions just to protect rich peoples investments.

That made me nauseous - but thanks for sharing that he has complete power to put thousands out of work and make staying warm for millions an even more challenging endeavor.

Nothing he does will have a big enough impact if the whole world is not on board. I agree there is a problem but this is not where energy needs to be directed right now. Efforts need to go toward getting every Country on the same page and education about recycling, strategies to save energy, etc.

It sounds like they want to sacrifice those who will lose their jobs and make it more impossible for the poor - rather than making it about "everyone" who shares this Country. Participation should not be determined by ones ability to afford more energy or target those industries who have given us energy for the last 300 years. While the poor will be forced to turn down the heat the rich will not. No rise in heat - that targets a socioeconomic population. Instead - if you use too much you lose it - let's see them put on double layers in the winter too. No, they wouldn't pass anything that would make things less comfortable for their own children.

He can reduce "Americas" energy use by 17% in the next 86 years. What impact will that have on the climate if all other countries aren't on board? Anyone have the numbers for that because someone needs to send him a memo since he doesn't think things through. Someone also needs to get him on discrimination of those who cannot afford to defend themselves - the ones who will be negatively impacted by this (the poor).

I bet we could reduce energy use by 17% within a year without giving an 86 year sentence to those who already struggle. Let's make the poor feel even more poor - that appears to be his agenda. It has to be "everyone". I would say if you make more than 400% of the poverty level you get a smart meter - if you go over your allotted power you get shut down. Now that would be fair. Ridiculous but so is making things more expensive.

In the face of such overwhelming scientific data, there's only one thing to do. We need to form two bucket brigades. The East Coast Brigade will start bailing water from the Atlantic to the Allegheny Mountains. The West Coast Brigade will start bailing water from the Pacific to the Rockies. We just need for the Climate Change Scientists to figure out how much water we need to bail out of the oceans to stay ahead of the rising water.

I hope that is a part of the plan. It seems they do want people to be prepared (FEMA, etc), but it will be interesting to see what kind of prepared they are talking about. I'm going to read the report tomorrow.

You're 100% right in this being the focus. How will it impact crops since weather patterns will continue to be sporadic? How will it impact fresh waters? I know of a couple of rives in California right now that would be inundated by sea water. How will it impact our forests - can we expect more disease? Disease of animals, plants, and trees? If so what sorts of diseases? What will sea life be like? If the ocean rises we know salinity will be altered. How will this impact that ecosystem? What animals will go extinct? When they go extinct how will that influence what depends on that species? I'm thinking bees, which would be a disaster. How will it impact earthquakes and volcanoes, if at all?

If our government wants to make this an issue at last they need to be prepared to deal with the damage done in a manner equal or greater to the prevention strategies of one Country.

One of the things that supposedly came out of all this is a new catch all .... Global Climate DISRUPTION!! DUM TA DUMM DUMMM! There only solution will be to tax you, that I can promise. 99% of that money will go into projects that protect themselves and their investments. In the end, while they are sitting in whatever bug out shelter they have, they will simply say sorry we tried but thanks for your vote.

God no. I'm steaming hot over hearing of coal miners being put out of work and power bills going up. Some of what I'm hearing may be rumor and if so I'll be relieved. If there is truth to it, I am not sure how I won't feel utter despair and defeat if the American people don't dispute such measures. This Country is weak and nearing being beyond hope due to manipulation by those who make decisions and the blind trust and submissiveness of the public.

The people need to be involved in the solution all the way. If they aren't it will fall into the lap of the government, and todays rumor will be tomorrow's truth - take from the poor and no sacrifice from the rich. They can afford higher power bills as an example, so it is discriminatory and it keeps on happening! My greatest fear is to see an approach that further separates socioeconomic class with a justification that isn't even viable. Every single time policy like that is passed, it gets harder to change it back to the America I grew up in. Sadly, they keep on doing it and the people keep on allowing it.
