I'm sorry, my friend -

WHEN IT COMES? It should be "if" it comes. I doubt it will, but you are entitled to your opinion.

And, no. I would not dodge it if I were applicable, that has been my career for several years and I would fight again willingly.

I am faced with the very real possibility of this, as I will be 18 very soon. But I don't think that a draft will happen, but if it does I must do what is necessary, REMAIN IN COLLEGE!

College won't save you this time around. Your friendly masters in Washington made sure of that. There will be no escaping to Canada, they took care of that too. They're probably going to raise the eligibility age to 36 or 40, so all you "I just turned 26" people are screwed too.

Women will most likely be eligible, as will medical professionals like doctors, EMTs, and nurses.

If it was a war on our soil, Id fight. If it was in some oil rich country, you can count me out.

Thats a good point.

Imagine a war on our soil? I could see Americans coming together and fighting with unearthly power. The power of a nation focused. wow!
If it was on our doorstep many would fight despite what they say now.

I will never forget America's reaction after Sept 11. People flying full-sized flags on there trucks and cars. US Flag stickers everywhere. Our country truely was unified. What a moment.
Do you know what Im talking about?

I'd dodge, I simply can't see myself fighting for something i don't believe in. This is the current situation, if the draft started up for a different war, or if someone ever actually invaded my country i'd gladly be on the front lines. But this is Bush's war... not mine

WyrdeOne, you ever thought about running for President? I'd vote for you
your first post was very well put and exactly how I feel.

defending your country is one thing. running halfway across the world to attack a nation that hasnt attacked us is murder. how does our justice system view self defense? you couldnt defend this war by our own criteria!!! I have trouble respecting laws that uphold such a blatant double standard.

to everyone calling coward...why havent you already enlisted? with all that John Wayne bravado seems like you would have already signed up & shipped out. pot calling the kettle black isnt it?

to everyone who says those who havent served dont have a voice...as long as my taxes foot the bill I'll say anything I please. if you or the government dont like what I say feel free to pay my taxes and I will gladly shut up!

edit: forgot to add I woud not fight if drafted unless circumstances changed drastically(as I have stated in all the other similar threads). if I see a terrorist trying to harm Americans here in America I would not have to be drafted to stop them!

p.s. why couldnt this have been added to one of the other draft dodging threads?

As Mr. T would say..I pity the foo!

You don't burst into a sleeping bear's den and poke at it's rump with a pointy stick, it's just not a good strategy for a long and healthy life. If some other country wanted to come over the ocean and test their mettle against ours, America would show its TRUE character.

It's too bad we sully our reputation overseas by conducting such shoddily concealed resource grabs under the auspices of democracy and justice.. Why dilute those beautiful words with callous misuse?

I have faith in most Americans. It's our leaders that worry me.
