Exclusive: Emails reveal close Google relationship with NSA

Email exchanges between National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander and Google executives Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt suggest a far cozier working relationship between some tech firms and the U.S. government than was implied by Silicon Valley brass after last year’s revelations about NSA spying.

But Al Jazeera has obtained two sets of email communications dating from a year before Snowden became a household name that suggest not all cooperation was under pressure.

“About six months ago, we began focusing on the security of mobility devices,” Alexander wrote. “A group (primarily Google, Apple and Microsoft) recently came to agreement on a set of core security principles....

By printing the emails from a Foia request, they were able to show that GoogleAppleMicrosoft more or less wrote and changed the code for mobile devices to assure access to everyone's phone....

Specifically, Alexander was writing to the CEO's directly asking for their help... and seemingly getting it... So all of this fawning that they were 'shocked' about the depth of the spying seems to be total nonsense. From the article, it is though they are all interrelated and working together... Which brings up lots of questions. and the removal of a fig leaf..

A key quote for those who don't read alot.........The classified briefing cited by Alexander was part of a secretive government initiative known as the Enduring Security Framework (ESF), and his email provides some rare information about what the ESF entails, the identities of some participant tech firms and the threats they discussed...
What is ESF... and why should the public know about it?

I cannot get angry over GoogleAppleMicrosoft exchanging information with the NSA. The biggest secret is A.I. and it is a matter of national security that USA gets the first high functioning example of A.I.

The internet is a virtual territory for the A.I. that's why internet has spread like a virus all over the Earth. The A.I. is now getting close to being born so it needs vast, vast, vast quantities of data to study us.

That's the real reason "GoogleAppleMicrosoft" want all our data.

It isn't the first time the multinational corporation known as google as worked hand in hand with spooky intelligence agencies in data mining us cattle.

"The company, which is called Recorded Future, offers a technology for predictive analysis which lets people to visualize the future, past, or present.

In-Q-Tel, which develops and invests in technology under the aegis of the CIA and Google Ventures each have seats on Recorded Future's board. Both companies have been "very helpful," providing advice to the Cambridge, Mass.-based start-up, Chief Executive Christopher Ahlberg, an ex-Swedish Army ranger, according to Wired.

The amount of the investments is undisclosed, but the article suggests that it was less than $10 million each and was given in 2009.

This was not the first time Google and the CIA have cooperated on a project. Google sold servers to intelligence agencies and reportedly sought aid from the NSA after it was targeted in attacks said to have originated in China, CNET reports. In-Q-Tel also had provided backing to Keyhole before Google acquired the mapping company to use in its technology in Google Earth.

Wired notes, however, that this may be the first time that the CIA and Google have funded the same startup simultaneously, a happenstance that has the potential to cause some public relations grief for a company that so publicly tries to portray itself as aligned with the good guys."

Corporations have become all powerful and now you got the NSA spying on us, google spying on us, Cia spying on us, and these are just the ones we know about. All on the taxpayers dime to! Obviously your government has gone rogue and yet nobody cares. This is called crony capitalism people.

Apparently I am a socialist because I do believe capitalism almost always evolves into crony capitalism. Hm... So be it then. 1984 was supposed to be a fictional story, not a how to guide to governing America.

Look at the timelines, much of this is recent, the NSA have been doing this hacking stuff for years. They just wanted more easier access to everything. You can near bet everything that has been going on over the last ten years goes back to them. China has been a US bogeyman since Mao, and he's gone, and there is a new China springing up even if it isn't perfect. But the US just keeps badgering. Anything clandestine going on like arms sales...everyone's at it, there's always a bogeyman in a far country. That way at home they get to do their own dirty work...on us.

Is anybody surprised? Of course Google is in bed with the enemy. Of course Google is raping our rights.

When you put immoral men in power--or hand them power through using their services/buying their products--they do immoral things.

The only way to take back this country and world is by a complete overhaul of society. This society is a reflection of the minds of the people we allow to run it... so no wonder it's such an effed up place.

Want to crush Google and Apple and all the other traitors that sold us out to this corrupt government? Simple--stop using their products. Stop handing them your money. Starve all the traitors to death, and that also applies to our so-called "leaders" in the federal government.

I'd suggest you do a search on 'government funding ai' and see what you come up with. Here is just one page from one learning institution (University of Arizona) it's listing dozens of projects and the funding amounts.

I feel that the situation has not been correctly defined. People are worried that the government is snooping on their data. NSA does not care about your personal data or what's in it. They want all our data (in bulk, unadulterated) because the government has gone from running AI simulations to actually feeding the thing with data from the real world, which is the true purpose of the social web.

I've just always assumed google and the NSA were
the same entity soon after google cornered the market
on information.

Now that google has cornered the market, so to speak,
of the entire internet...I am sure the NSA and google are
one and the same.

This is the reality...

Every bit of data that you send or receive thru your
computer or cell phone is recorded and stored....everything.

And we are soon approaching a threshold of complete and
all encompassing surveillance where all cameras, cell phones,
computers, laptops, gps devices, rfid and credit and debit
consumer info, will all be integrated at can be accessed at

I never trusted the Android platform and the Chrome O/S even less.

Microsoft is a joke.

If more Game Dev companies swapped out to Linux Development, you'd see a radical shift from Windows to Linux within months.

I recall thinking back when the mind-bending revelations of Fast Eddie Snowden went viral, “This is news?” I couldn’t believe that everyone on the planet didn’t already know this stuff was going on. It always struck me how so many people voluntarily visited social networking sites, spilling their guts and opinions to absolute strangers, and used cloud services to store their data, and then were shocked and appauled that their “private” communications might be compromised. I mean, come on, gimme a break. Talk about naive.

Anyway, whenever you connect to the internet, you broadcast to the world, “Hello world! Here I am, and here’s my address!” It’s just the nature of being a node on a network. Anyone with the proper skill-set can hack you and trace your activity. In my case, and most others, it would be a waste of time to monitor my activity in search of anything of value. So, it doesn’t worry me. For that matter, you might consider cookies an invasion of privacy since they do reveal info about you and your online activity. Most major companies plant these little spies on your system whenever you go online. Where are all the cries about the evil corporate cookie invasion? I haven’t heard them. I read so many posts by outraged members here screaming about their Constitutional privacy rights being violated by the government, but not so much about all the other countless companies/corporations who collect our data and spy on us routinely.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that I think it’s OK that all of this is going on. All I’m saying is, it is what it is. Personally, I tend to avoid Google products and the big social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc), and I have no interest in cloud apps to store my personal data. But, I seriously doubt that means much. After all, I’m a member of this forum and a few others. So, I’m not hiding anything from anyone who really wants to know. I guess I’m jaded, but I figure the government and major corps, at the very least, have whatever online data about me that they care to gather. I’m quite aware of the Big Brother aspect to all of this, but I’m just not going to allow myself to become paranoid over it. The only thing Snowden said that I agree with is that our privacy is a thing of the past. But then, I already knew that.

I have to wonder if it’s not already too late to change this trend. I’m pretty sure it’s way too late. Technology will continue to advance and further tresspass into our private lives, becoming even easier and more intrusive. Regarding Google, they’re investing significantly in what’s called the “Internet of Everything”. Talk about an intrusive violation of privacy, this one takes the cake. More and more our household appliances will not only be capable of talking to the internet, they’ll be able to talk to each other, as well. Nothing is sacred! Now, when my toaster starts spamming me, then I may get a little unnerved.

I wish I had the answers, but I don’t. As our technology continues to evolve at breakneck speed, I wonder if we humans will evolve fast enough to adapt to it. If not, then we have a problem...
