If the German's play by Russia's rules that means they have the right to protect German speaking people in Slavyansk...and the rest of Ukraine...

Indeed. And every country by that matter.. So WTH with Ukranian sovereignty, by Russian Standards, every country could go there!

Edit: Does anyone see how ridiculous arguments are being used?

Of course. We Germans would also have any right to protect the Germans in the USA and Canada and all those other countries. So beware!

(Since there are always some idots who would say, Germany is a threat to the world I think it is necessary to add, that this was a joke to show how idiotic the situation in Ukraine is constructed.)

Not surprising. From everything I've read, and that's a lot, the German government was the primary force behind the Ukrainian coup (with a US go ahead and auxiliary support). Here we go... This is the kind of thing that is a trigger for war.

And the vast majority of the US population doesn't even know a coup took place that kicked all this off.

And you have evidence of this?

No? What a shock.

I'm sure any proof would be dismissed out of hand anyway but for #s and giggles:

The leadership of the Euromaiden protests is composed of three rightwing capitalist parties. One of those parties, Svoboda, is openly fascist and celebrates Nazis who fought for Hitler in Ukraine and who murdered large numbers of innocent victims including Jews, Poles, and Communists. Both U.S. Senator John McCain and Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Victoria Nuland have appeared at public events supporting the Euromaiden standing side by side with neo-Nazi leader Oleh Tyahnybok. At a rally in Kiev on Sunday, Dec. 15th, John McCain, standing shoulder to shoulder with neo-Nazi leader Oleh Tyahnybok boldly declared “We are here to support your just cause!” as the neo-Nazi flags of Svoboda and the red and black flags of Nazi occupation filled the audience blowing in the wind.

Plus a little speculation and hearsay:

There are also additional reports from Ukrainians that the protesters are being paid by the United States. This would help explain why protesters have been able to hold out for three months on barricades in a way that most workers, students, and farmers would not be able to do without outside support. This certainly wouldn’t be the first time the United States has paid mercenaries for their services. In fact, given the high level of U.S. involvement, it would be surprising if the U.S. wasn’t paying protesters.

Last but not least....a picture is worth a thousand words.

"All 12 people I have on the list were freed," Lukin stated.

Last week, the military observers were captured by anti-Kiev protesters who accused them of espionage. Earlier one of the detained - a Swedish officer suffering from diabetes - was released.

Lukin stressed the release of the observers wasn't a bargain. "It was a voluntary humanitarian act, and we're very grateful for it to those controlling the city," he said.

"Terrorists" with humor?

Local insurgent leader Vyacheslav Ponomaryov confirmed the releases.

"As I promised them, we celebrated my birthday yesterday and they left. As I said, they were my guests," Mr Ponomaryov said.

BBC

"We are not stopping," Mr Avakov wrote on his Facebook page.

Should we wait for Avakov's birthday to stop "democratic" killing of ukrain people?

Maybe next january... He was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and now become a real ukrainian nationalist leader (Batkivshchyna or the All-Ukrainian Union "Fatherland").

You see, this is the difference between me and the many knee-jerk pro-Russian anti-Americans on here, I can accept that there are bad things about this and not resort to propaganda and hearsay. I can understand the complexity of these kinds of events without believing the bullsh*t.

Yes, it's entirely true that there are right wing elements in the Maidan protest, this much was clear for all to see. Their ACTIONS were not too different to any other political group. This would be like having a rally in the US with the Tea Party present waving flags alongside other groups. When there is a common enemy, it's not unusual to see alliances form.

Like a lot of other things (recent American military endeavors for example), this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth and I do think that certain groups should have been excluded, but how practical would that be? Could you police a protest group to stop the right wing from being present? Isn't this what democracy is all about? I thought Americans were all about people having the right to their opinion and the right to express it?

The BNP or EDL in the UK
The Tea Party in the USA
Golden Dawn in Greece

These are a part of the political life of our countries whether you like it or not, and whether any of us agree with it or not. The fact that the number of Right Sektor crazies in that group was so small should be considered a blessing given that Russia itself has MUCH LARGER fascist groups operating publicly in the country.

Regardless of my (or your) personal views of the right wing in any country, there has been NO attack on any minority group in Kiev. The Jewish population there, while concerned with this small group of right wing crazies being present, issued statements to fight back against Russian propaganda to tell the world that they WERE NOT under any kind of attack.

Russia is known to have been pumping propaganda into E Ukraine claiming that people are being murdered in the streets by fascists in Kiev, that Jews are fleeing the country, that religious buildings are under daily attack... this is CLEARLY not happening.

Lets not forget also that Russia really isn't in much of a position to talk about fascism and right wing extremism. This is a country that excludes other races from its population without much thought. This is a country where women are still treated as though they are subordinates to men. This is a country that has anti-gay laws and neo-Nazi groups operating openly on the VK social network. This is a country that has solidified complete state control over all internal media. This is a country that follows the demands of the Orthodox religious cult. This is a country that ignores the very notion of hate crimes.

This is a country where a TV personality can state openly that gay people should be burned alive in ovens, and then be promoted within two months to head a national broadcaster!

Yes, everyone else is a fascist, but Putin is just "misunderstood".

So that was a whole lot of words that have no barring to the original point and follow up by me. What Russia is doing and how they govern their country has NOTHING to do with the US financing and protecting the opposition of the (once) legitimate Kiev government. I think its funny that coup's are only tolerable to the US when it supports their agenda but whatever.

Additionally, your post was very Bush'esk....."You're either with us or you're with the terrorists." So it's either Pro-American/anti-Russian or Pro-Russian/Anti-American......check. God forbid someone actually try to be objective with out someone calling them a shill. Like a duck, it rolls right off me.

Only KSK? Hell they should just launch a full scale assault with everything they got. Bring in the military. Eastern Ukraine is doing their best trying to piss off Western Ukraine while Western Ukraine is pissing off Russia, Russia is just dying for an excuse to invade all while Obama rant all over the place about those evil Russians (I still have no idea what the US have to do with the conflict).

USA has all to do with this conflicts. It is about the balance between the powerful states. Nobody minds about individuals here.
If Russia understands that Europe is the territorry to deal with than there is no conflict at all. This is why Germany's ex-chancellor Schröder can celebrate his birthday with Putin. But if Putin feels threatened by NATO this becomes a different game. Kids burn in Odessa and all fools interprete it their way.

It reminds me a lot to the 1920th when Nazis and Commies began to fight each other. Often they were boys of the same neighbourhood. And both sides were as extremist as the other side was.

They weren't part of the OCSE mission. They were foreign military officials with weapons that were stopped and detained at a checkpoint. It has nothing to do with Russia. The only connection they seem to have with OCSE is that they are from OCSE countries.

And there have been foreign military personnel detained in East Ukraine, ranging from German colonels to Danish mercs. Why should they be allowed to run around?

Thank you for this thread, Prof... it's huge and is exposing the HECK
out of NATO. F&S!
These guys and their unnecessary interpreter are Bundeswehr
(German Intel OUT of uniform) and the op was not only misrepresented
by NATO but inappropriate; except that the officers are at least from
OSCE countries . Hoot -- Webster Tarpley strikes again, my favorite
NATO snoop. Say what you like but he's on it like fried on chicken again:

PRESSTV
Press TV: Now looking at the current events with OSCE observers, it goes to show the level of mistrust people in eastern and southern Ukraine have with regards to anything connected with Europe. How do you see the role they are playing?

Tarpley: I would have to say first of all, we should stop calling them OSCE observers because all indications are that they are not. That is what the OSCE has been saying continuously since this started and you can see it on their website. There are basically two versions. The Western media say OSCE observers, but the mayor Mr. [Vyacheslav] Ponomaryov, the pro-Russian mayor of Slavyansk, knows them as spies. I’m afraid reality seems to be going in the direction of Mr. Ponomareyov.
These are active-duty NATO military officers. They are four from Germany, one from Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Poland. All NATO or European Union (EU).

The German officers come from a place called Geilenkirchen, which is a very important NATO base. This is where the AWACS planes are flown from. It’s one of the big NATO reconnaissance centers and they particularly belong to a unit of the German army, the Bundeswehr, which is called the center for enforcement or verification tasks. In other words, it’s military intelligence. What seems also to be the case, is that they were accompanied by five active-duty Ukrainian officers of the pro-Kiev forces, the ones that are controlled by the regime.

Looks like we get the spin on camera after the Russians detain some well known
and unannaounced German equivalents of G2, and the media Wurlitzer pulls out
all the stops saying these poor observers (not spies, kiddies) have to be
rescued.
I personally don't care that they get escorted back out-- in fact I would applaud
it just as soon as everybody's eyes glued to the tube get tattooed with another
failed NATO personnel snoop... and the real identities of the 'observers'.
Moral: I love it when Angie's dachshund loses her bladder all over the brand new
parquet and the [God this is SO wrong] is on camera. More walnut stain quick...

Thank you -- and how about that?
We catch somebody on a camera op inside one of our bases casing it
and he's turned into everything but target practice.
Boot's on the other foot, and we have to call these guys 'observers'.

Simply stunning standard standard. And the media calls it SOP.
It's probably a good reason that except in very isolated and mostly
controlled narratives, the Western Media treat Dr. Tarpley like a
wet leper..

And European and American empires supported the Nazis back then too just because they did not directly want to confront the Soviets after they got their asses whipped for invading post-Czarist Russia. Oh, but most westerners don't remember those little things like when they invaded Russia a hundred years ago just to kill the workers' revolution to keep the Russians as mere peasants tilling the land, or even when they invaded China. China and Russia are countries that don't forget.
