truthfully, I never really believed that the spy plane incident under clinton was an "accident" you'd think they would get a bit more aggro over that... My guess is if a deal was struck with China it was done under Clintons administration and the plane was an "offering" chock full of goodies.

Then we have the constant funding of our debt through many years of war, a path across the middle east that leads straight through Afghanistan to the Chinese border, realistically where in the long run would all that oil be going? Us... I don't think so

There is no market like the Chinese and Indian market over time for oil, in a modern world everyone wants cars, as China and India modernize that's 2.5 Billion automobiles to fuel, even cents on the dollar from the oil assures another American century. All i'm saying is our involvement in the quest to control energy isn't for what we ourselves need to hold, we can go decades with existing supplies, obviously we want a piece of the supply to the east, The West moves slowly to natural forms of energy even as the population declines, China and India have a heck of a lot of internal modernization to do and it will take fossil fuels to do it, heck China is struggling to move past Coal

Even without any "back door" deals with China....

One still has to ponder, what happens to the region when these wars end? Lets say this flares up... Iran and Ukraine, let's say the USA looses, has to beat a retreat economy collapses... we end up in a position not unlike the soviets 20 years ago when the wall fell

The whole energy belt.... then sits there, it's infra structure kaput, it's modern defenses ravaged a void... to be filled

China borders Afghanistan and has a huge population, they CAN actually occupy,it's a straight walk to Siberia and Europe when we are done.... aligned with them or not... we are handing them the region most likely

And now the US has "discovered" oil reserves in its mid-west larger than all of the middle east. Looks to me like for the last 50 years the US has used up the rest of the words oil while sitting on a VAST heap so that it can sell to other countries later on while it weans itself off of said product. Brilliant!!

North Korean and Chinese relations have dipped to an all time low. This is no doubt why Russia is reaching out to NK as they have also done recently with India. While Russia is looking to secure a buffer zone in the West they clearly are focusing on what they see as their biggest threat, China. China should encourage NK to start to follow Chinese model of slow-steady market reforms of 1980s. Few sectors and regions can be opened slowly and partially for economy to be able to absorb the competition from the private sector.

All the while, like China, communist party can remain in power if freedom economics gives them severe lack of sleep and thus terrible insecurity. If Russia had followed Chinese model then today Russian economy would have been $4T worth or more.

Btw, why is China sitting on $2T reserves. Why not invest $100B in top of the line weapons like Su-35s, home made T-90s and several others like attack helicopters, satellites etc. Chinese Air Force is barely equal to that of Japan and Taiwan combined and to that add ever couple squadrons of F-22 based in Japan, and you are talking a staying power of barely 48 hours.

It seems most of Chinese defense budget is devoted to maintaining 2.2 Million soldiers and not to top line equipment.

Sitting on vast heap of oil or gas may be fine but if extraction costs are break even at say $80 or so then all that energy resource means only welfare state type employment, not profits.

Yes, because of how quickly policy can change in the major nations, you CANNOT say with 100 PERCENT CERTAINTY that it will end up with the US, UK, EU and Israel against Iran, Iraq, NK, Russia and China.
The US and EU are at odds over cybersecurity.
Israel, Iran and Saudi Arabia are working together in secret. (I have a whole thread outlined on this, the link is in my profile, don't be lazy if you don't believe it, do your own research.)
And I believe the US and Russian governments are as well.

It'll end up more like all the 3RD-world-nations and the US government working with Israel and the UK against the EU and the rest of the civilized world, including the American people. And it won't happen any time soon, try more like a decade from now. All of this talk about WW3 is just doom-porn.
