Well this is interesting...

SEOUL, April 28 (Yonhap) -- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev arrived in Pyongyang on Monday, North Korea's state news agency reported, in the latest in a series of exchange visits of high-level officials between the two countries
Yonhap News

I'm sure there is some perfectly normal reason.

Perhaps Moscow is planning to supply some grain and rice for a change. That would be helpful.

a reply to: Wrabbit2000 Well seeing as the west don't want to talk about peace then you need to be close to your enemy's enemy . But yea rice and maybe a personal barber would be a nicer gesture .

If the west didn't want to talk peace, why all the talk of peace, negotiations and agreements? Surely, if the West wanted War, we'd have dived in after Crimea?

It is Russia acting all bellicose and stirring the pot with their "separatists" and threats to "protect Russian nationals" while telling Ukraine that acting like any other nation would in response to groups of armed men taking over key buildings and installations is a "provocation".

As for this visit, definitely interesting, but if it is a case of Russia looking for friends, then this is like going down the pub and talking the odd looking chap in the corner, on his own, that no one trusts and is just as likely to stab you in the back in a streetfight as he is to help you. Desperation?

It could be reaching..or it could be strategic.

I think many folks forget, Russia isn't just European in nature and identity, they are Asian as well. One of the largest naval bases in the world sits just across the North Korean land border at Vladivostok, Russia. That's the home of their Pacific Fleet and it's the other neighbor of the DPRK.

So who knows, eh? Maybe trade deals or maybe something more. Never a boring moment in the world today, that's for sure.

Shoring up allies. If war comes then the U.S will need to be spread as thin as possible.

Well it sounds like we sent Russia into the arms of North Korea by way of sanctions. So this trip may be more strengthening of ties as they begin to implement the new trade pact where North Korea will settle payment in rubles. Which is yet further unintended consequences of the sanctions regime and will likely end up having more of an impact on the West than Russia. But hey so long as the West can say "nanny nanny poo poo".........

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and North Korea have signed a new protocol to transition to using the ruble for payments between the two countries as part of an effort to boost annual bilateral trade to $1 billion by 2020, Russia's Far East Development Ministry said Friday.
The announcement came as Russian officials have expressed a desire to explore new markets for the country's businesses, following the introduction of sanctions by the West in reaction to Moscow's stance over Crimea. Russian leaders have simultaneously reassured international investors the country remains open for business, and there are no plans to restrict international commerce.

What a fascinating time that we all chose to incarnate onto this planet! It cracks me up! All you can do is laugh in this unpredicable world, best not to take anything to seriously, with all of the potential horrific scenarios lining themselves up I am truly grateful to have the faith that I do! I may not know how the balance is going to work out, but I do believe that MAD is not in the world's future, however it is going to get rocky and we shall all pay for our past karma in whichever fasion that plays out and then we should be able to start again with our past failures behind us!

lol of course the russian pm would go visit NK, i look forward to the increased doom porn with no end in sight!

I would wager it deals with N. Korea's nuke program. North Korea stated they developed a new type of nuclear device however they did not elaborate. Satellite photos are showing increased activity at one of their launch sites / test site for nukes.

This test most likely is why Japan issued orders to shoot down any missile coming near their territory. I also thought Russia was one of the group of nations trying to deal with their nuke program.

I'm not quite sure what it is I am supposed to "learn" - he said "shoring up allies" and I touched on that in my post.

If you ask me Putin is pretty STUPID to increase the military and political power of unpredictable Nations are hir border. That's kinda like supply arms to Hitler pre World War 2. China will be a handful for Mr. Putin. Even if the US disappeared it would make much more since to conquer Russia and Europe for China than attempting to take over the America's. Invading and holding the Americas would be much more costly in both human lives and resources. China only need to point its 200 million man army toward Moscow to take Russia and then Europe. To get to America you have to build ships and get them here all the while separating your troops from your homeland by vast Oceans.

Putin is an idiot to foster Chinese and North Korean power. North K can reach many Russian cities with her current inventory of missiles. Nothing new needed.

Putin is creating Russian demise but this time for good.

ok what he said and meant with such a simple short sentence is this

If US government truly pushes Russia into responding in Ukraine, and US acts or psychs up the NATO to respond etc.

Then in order to make United States WEAKER would involve North Korea also attacking South and Japan, to which US is sworn to defend against.

AN ALL OUT WAR is something Putin would serve the US on a silver platter, if US truly thinks Russia is just another Iraq or Afghanistan, or Lybia or Syria, or Yemen, or Somalia, or Vietnam, or .........oh you get the picture

1 tiny flaw in your scenario.

If a war breaks out the US can invoke article V of NATO.

Secondly the Korean war never ended - its currently a 50 year truce. With that said the UN command established to fight the North is still active.

You know that your country has become an international pariah when you have to suck up to North Korea. North Korea is the only country on Earth desperate enough for outside trade that it would agree to use the Ruble as a currency of exchange.

You do recall the UN resolution authorizing those actions right?

UN Resolution - Security Council Approves ‘No-Fly Zone’ over Libya, Authorizing ‘All Necessary Measures’ to Protect Civilians, by Vote of 10 in Favour with 5 Abstentions

No, you do need a perception of being the innocent party wanting to avoid war.
You cannot jump in willy nilly, you sit on the sidelines and interfere covertly making sure war is inevitable, then at the last moment you run in to save the day.

Have you been asleep for the last 3 months? If the west does not want peace it would not have bothered with all politics and discussions in the last few months. Crimea was justification enough. There was even an international agreement signed by the Russians that they broke.

The only people who don't want peace are the Russians or rather Putin who is on some kind of Soviet style ressurgence.

This crisis is hell for the anti western folks for the simple reason that the west is being quite reserved and trying it's best to find a non military solution. Putin keeps digging away and prodding the patience of the west with ever increasing military activity.

By the way it's not just the west but that is a highly inconveniant fact for the Putinites.....
