Ukraine Wants Action, But U.S. Sends Hashtags Instead

As Russian troops amass along the Ukraine border and take over military facilities in the Crimea region, the United States has distanced itself from any boots-on-the-ground intervention.
The U.S. won't send troops or weapons, but it will send hashtags.

While Congress approved an aid package for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia this week, the State Department pushed a Twitter campaign under the hashtag #UnitedForUkraine, which calls on people to share their support for the country. Source

While I am personally not for sending United States troops to the Ukraine and support the idea of much tougher sanctions I thought this must have terrified Vladimir Putin. I could see the President of Russia hastily throwing on his shirt after wrestling a bear (or two) and running to his computer to make sure that Dear Leader has not unfriended him on Facebook as well.

Imagine the pressure of having a hashtag targeting your invasion and occupation of the Ukraine must be causing in the Kremlin. As the tweets fly back and forth all over the world Putin and his cronies must be mobilizing their own army of teenage girls to counteract this highly aggressive posture from the White House. It makes one stop and ponder that if social media had existed in 1939 Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill could have stopped Adolf Hitler and prevented World War II by firing off a severe and remonstrative tweet #stopinvadingPolandorwemaygetupset. What is next in this ever escalating situation, a non-smiling selfie?

I can fix this problem easy.

Send our guys over there, it would be our first actual good use of troops since the end of WW2.

We arent the bad guys this time. We would be the guys protecting those too weak to defend themselves.

Besides, what could putin do but STFU and quit being a toad, because he sure as hell cant beat us in a fight.

He keeps pulling this crap because we let him, it is just like Hitler at the start of WW2, we keep letting him, he keeps thinking it is ok.

We smack his hand and tell him NO, he will learn a valuable lesson.

Or just do what we normally do, invade and destroy countries and lives for no reason, but sit out all the times we could of actually made a positive difference in this world.

America shouldn't be getting involved at all because it's none of our business. It's time these nations start handling their own problems we are broke and our military is worn out thanks to the world police nonsense it is time we step out of the picture.

You'll know it's time to head to a lead-lined bunker when Obama sends an Instagram of a Selfie of him "duck-faced".

We do not need to send troops. The Russian economy is weak to begin with, crushing sanctions would devastate them. However our limp European 'allies' really do not want anything like that as they need to suckle at the Russian energy teat. Our years of coddling and shielding them from the Russian bear have made them as weak and impotent as Dear Leader.

Yes because it is much better to watch and actual travesty we could stop with little actual effort. We call his bluff he will flinch. He is not going to cause WW3 just so he can be a bully to those around him to weak to defend themselves.

You dont give a bully what he wants to try to end the problem, you tell him to go EFF his mother, and then punch the pussy in his face 14 or 15 times.

This method has worked for thousands of years. Bullies are at their core, sissies and they know it, they hide behind bravado so you dont see it.

If we do nothing, the blood of thousands of innocents will be on our hands. We can stop this, we should stop this.

If we dont....well the world maps will be redrawn, as Russia takes Ukraine, then the rest of eastern EU.

It is simple, learn from history, stop the problem when it is small with little actual effort or los of life, or wait until it is out of control, and millions must die to end it.

I was a math major in college, millions of lives lost, is way more than a few.

Going by modern history sending troops would be the last thing Ukrainians want.. Every country you have touched over the last decade is now a terrorist paradise.

The west is tired and fed up.

Maybe if Bush and Blair hadn't wasted there time on Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan we the public may be more sympathetic.

If you cry wolf to many times it has consequences as our wretched scum bag of leaders will find out or already have really when we put there Syria plans to bed.

I don't remember swearing an oath to support and defend countries on the other side of the planet.

Going to Ukraine is not a good use of American lives. We need to worry about our problems here and stop getting involved in every little dispute in the world.

You mean like how sanctions worked on Iran? Sanctions are an act of war and really makes no sense.

They were admittedly working in Iran until Dear Leader reduced them, otherwise why would Iran agree to the 'deal' the White House proposed and they are not adhering to?

Sanctions are a political and economic tool to help prevent war.

If you so willing for America to go to war over the Ukraine if it does come to that you will of course be willing to sign up and go fight. And the blood will be on our hands is just ignorance the blood is always on the hands of the people doing the killing.

How were they working Iran was getting supplies from other nations. There was no logical reason for the sanctions in the first place because Iran was doing nothing wrong.

Sanctions are #ed up. They do not help things - we are escalating things at this point. Prove to me how Russia is not following the Geneva agreement but we are somehow? Sanctions are an act of war they do not prevent war. The Iranian civilians were over there starving because of our sanctions, just like it will be the Ukrainians starving after these sanctions really piss Russia off.

When mad at a country why not sanction its' goods so it's innocent population will be forced to pay 10x higher for food and when they cannot, they starve while the leaders of said country we are mad at are still sitting pretty and eating good. Basically, 5 years from now Ukraine will be a starving terrorist filled wasteland all because 'MURICA wanted to make some type of 'stand against Putin'....give me a break.....You want to send our boys over there? What unit are you serving in again?

The Russians and the USA seem to have taken the war to twitter. Threats, counter threats, some of it the kind of stuff that should be done over the phone between leaders and officials on both sides...

It's fascinating seeing it happen this way. Perhaps a war could start not from a shot fired between covert western forces and covert/overt Russians in Ukraine, but as a result of a threatening/insulting/provocative tweet?

They arent terrorist paradises because of us, they already were, we just didnt resolve the problem.

Terrorists didnt come because we were there, they were already there when we showed up.

Um "sending troops would be the last thing Ukrainians want"....LOL ahahahahahaha.

Ya they would rather fight a war they cant possibly win against a vastly superior foe in a no win situation, than have their allies send them help.

What planet are you from?

They want our help.

What is worse? Russia coming in kicking in doors and killing all opposition (think chechnia), or the US coming, and standing watch as Russia retreats with its tail between it legs?

Russia does not, nor will it, fight the US in open war, they will be slaughtered and they know it.

Our soldiers and toys are way better, entire generations better.

What is the current stat for Russian tanks vs the Abhrams? Like 200 to 1?...LOL

Russia has a good military from a korean war view point, from a modern view point....They are pathetic.

When was the last time a russian weapons system beat a western weapons system?

The last time the west dominated russian tech was Iraq, 73 easting in 91' was kinda dramatic. Honestly the most one sided tank battle in history. They might as well have been hiding behind wicker shields for all the good those russian tanks did them.

Russia has a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of hardware, it is all old and useless against modern weapons though.

May as well just bring back the german panzer and tiger tanks from WW2, wouldnt even make a difference, the outcome would be the same, they still all die in one shot on the move, at speed before they can even see us.

I agree 100%. I think we should close all overseas bases. and bring all of our guys home, letting the rest of these idiots depopulate the world for us.

This is not going to happen though. So, since we are going to be involved in the world, and must have a stable world to work with...................we have to stop this BS before it sucks us back in again for round 3 of these other idiots problems being forced on us.

We tried to sit out WW1, we denied WW2 was going on all the way until we got attacked at pearl harbor. This time will we stop the atrocities cold in their tracks or wait until it is so outrageous, and so many millions are dead that we cant ignore the problem any longer, now sending hundreds of thousands into harms way to stop the madness, again. Or will we finally take a page from history, realise where this is going, and head it off early, long before any of this happens again?

We can lose a couple thousand now, or wait until it requires millions. History is smacking us in the face, do you not feel it?

How stupid are people that they cant see the exact same patterns repeating themselves over and over and over and over again?

We can end this now, with minimal bloodshed, or we can go full out and once again, and wipe millions of lives from this planet.

Not a tough call really.

Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it- Winston Churchill

Did you happen to hear John Kerry's comment about social media on the MSM news?

"You can see the truth of whats happening in Ukraine(refering to russian involvement) through looking at social media,"
he said...Utterly unfathomable to think that social media is now being used to start a war.
The new propaganda of the digital age.
We are now supposed to believe everything on social media as the truth are we?

Please do not insult our intelligence Mr Kerry.
