Inexcusable: 40 Vets Die Waiting for Care on Secret Waiting List at Military VA Hospital

This is just inexcusable and just plain makes me sick. It's bad enough that so many vets take their own lives every day and they cut their pensions.We give away billions of dollars a year.Why can't they spend some of that money

IIn a disturbing glimpse at America’s original government-run healthcare system, the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system in Virginia reportedly placed more than 1,600 veterans on a secret waiting list for healthcare.

Its not socialistic healthcare that's the problem is the useless US implementation of it that is.

Before the ACA screwed things up the USA was already bottom of the Developed world for healthcare.

But I guess even after fighting and bleeding for the country Vets should just be left to pay for the healthcare themselves and F them if they cant pay?

Waiting lists exist..........people die awaiting healthcare....whats new.....?is it more damning because its vets or children?
The truth is simple...the social contract has been broken for a long time and wont get fixed in our lifetime without a lot of bloodshed....

This sounds like a localized issue to me. It appears that the Phoenix VA was lieing to officials in Washington about their timeliness.

Foote says the Phoenix wait times reported back to Washington were entirely fictitious. "So then when they did that, they would report to Washington, 'Oh yeah. We're makin' our appointments within -- within 10 days, within the 14-day frame,' when in reality it had been six, nine, in some cases 21 months," he said.

Typical .. once your of no use to uncle scam .. had many friends over the years die due to v.a incompetence , and waiting for treatment from v.a facilities ..
Sadly 40 is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to deaths due to the v.a ..

"They wrote on his chart that it was urgent," said Sally, her father-in-law's main caretaker. The family has obtained the chart from the VA that clearly states the "urgency" as "one week" for Breen to see a primary care doctor or at least a urologist, for the concerns about the blood in the urine.

For the last 6 months people have lost there health insurance many veterans that are low income or service connected have not signed up for obamacare but have started flooding the VA.
The US government knew this would happen but never made plans to cover the problem.

Many of these people would have qualified for medicare/medicaid but finding doctors that take medicare/medicaid is very hard.
Likely people on medicare/medicaid have a higher death rate but its hidden even more.

You can put this problem right on Obama and his crones.

The democrats do not like veterans. but it would be politically dangerous to show this.

There big trick is when a veterans bill comes up in congress they load it with all the pork and liberal amendments that they could never get passed on there own merits to force the GOP to reject the bill.

Unfortunately you're 100% correct. I got tired of battling the bureaucratic bull s... With the VA and went and got my own insurance. After 20 years I'm finally getting the surgery that could have saved my military career. Too little too late and I'm one of the lucky ones. The VA hospital I'm supposed to use for treatment had some serious issues in the mid to late 90's when it came out that a cardiac doctor there was falsifying documents to maintain the flow of money via grants. Several vets died under his "care" or non care as it turned out.

Story of my life. It wasnt until a retired Lt. Colonel became my districts congressman a few years bak that my records were seen for the first time in over 15 years. The VA still claimed that I had never filed for compensation or medical which really blew my mind. In the end they still screwed me because I was the ass who went over their head and went to congress. There's a lot more back story that I can't get much into but suffice to say it involved revelations that my discharge was illegal and there was a looming congressional investigation over it. Apparently Lt. Col. Gibson was with the 3rd ranger bat. at he same time I was and he looked at it as a pet project. I just keep filing papers and eventually they'll have to pay up for the mistake and it old end up being 20 years of back pay. I'm not holding my breath but if it ever works out I vote for ATS weekend in Vegas lol

I agree that the US healthcare system was already broken before ACA... The break is only being compounded ('insult to injury') since.
But - seems that it's not broken...for everyone.

Little hard to do now, I have a USB drive on my key chain with all my records that i downloaded from the myhealthevet site.

In a emergency i have my records with me all the time this way and ANY Hospital can just plug the USB in and see my medical history. and the USB drive is the size of my thumbnail.

It would be nice if they could help all the vets but they don't have enough doctors, especially ones that speak English well enough to understand, and they probably don't have enough funds either. The VA hospital I go to does well on some stuff. At least some of the doctors are trying to help, the good ones could go to private practice and make more money but they wanted to help vets. If they do go after the administrators that make a waiting list they also need to get whoever gave the order.
