I thought plane black boxes had specific frequencies they wouldn`t use the same frequencies for tracking whales would they?

As I understand it (from what I have learned investigating this incident, I am not an aviation specialist by any stretch) that some beacons will change frequency as the battery runs out, but the beacon on a Black Box Recorder doesn't and stays at the same frequency till it stops (a pilot, I believe, posted that tidbit of info) I don't think locator beacons on whales are of the same caliber (whale locators last a whole lot longer than 30 days for starters)

Maybe someone with some knowledge can confirm whether there are any devices aboard this type of plaNe able to be tracked via GPS ?

After all even I own a few, car, mobiles and tablets.

Even if Boeing or the airline not keeping tabs on their assets then I understand Rolls Royce receive real time telemetry from their engines - at least altitude and thrust.

The conclusion being that in all likelihood a bunch of people know exactly what happened to this plane but the info isn't being released.

My own speculation being that the Captain held the plane hostage making demands of the Malaysian Govt, who took it out rather than having it deliberately flown at a target. Maybe that initial report from the oil rig worker was correct and he saw the plane on fire after it had been hit - the search focus being moved to allow mop up.

Wonder if there has been any kind of unusual activity or unofficial exclusion zones in the South China sea.

Yes, it TOTALLY landed "safely." ALL 240 passengers have been provided 3 meals a day and water DAILY -- for over 2 months now -- in a 3rd-world sh#thole, BECAUSE THEIR CAPTORS ARE "HUMANITARIANS" LIKE THAT, AFTER THEY HIJACKED A PLANE!!!

...Meanwhile, back in the land of REALITY.

RIP, victims.

Sorry, but this is not a likely scenario, and the link leads to an article and video that merely repeats what a paper suggests an "unknown official" says (an unknown official in a group of potentially thousands of such people who would not be privy to what the authorities are actually willing to investigate).

I am all for considering all possibilities, and so should any investigating nation or authority, but the idea of it landing somewhere without being discovered is so far fetched it would have to be the least likely on the list of potential scenarios.

Every professional who has commented on this mysterious case seems to have come to the same conclusion, and that the most plausible scenario is a mechanical or technical failure on board, leading to a fire.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility, no evidence has been discovered indicating that it could have landed anywhere.

I'm afraid that my logical thought process tells me that this plane will not be found for decades. Given all the professional opinions and the available evidence, I would have to believe that it's most likely that the plane suffered a fault, a fire, and that it then continued until it ran out of fuel and dropped into the ocean.

Wouldn't this mean the Chinese are holding the Chinese passengers hostage?
I don't think even the Chinese people would go along with this for very long.

Well it would be a looney if this somehow would be true.Maylaysia sure is acting strange but I think they are just not use to all this pressure.

Well, you can't blame people for speculating about this 'reality'

This is a world where a 9/11 can happen; massive buildings shred themselves freefall and implode to nothing... No resolution is brought forward and everyone moves on to the next TV drama.

a technical question for anyone who may know. Let's assume the plane was "stolen". Does anyone know if the call sign, flight number on radar could be chanced by the pilot? Everyone is looking at radars for MH370, but what if after it disappeared the pilot or someone on the ground changed the plane's ID to something else like for example LH472 and they were able to fly it to their destination while hiding in plain sight. Ideas? Far fetched but its a thought I had.

Sure they can change the number but it looks like the transponder stopped working or they turned it off, and besides, that wouldn't fool the Inmarsat satellite handshaking pings.

If there was a fire why did they switch the transponders off and if you say the fire destroyed the transponders why not the rest of the plane, as it flew on for several hours after?

As I have not found it mentioned anywhere else I would like to point out the similarities between NYC's twin World Trade Centre towers and Kuala Lumpur's twin Petronas towers.

An attack on the Petronas Towers would equate to a continuation of 9/11.

The significance of such a directly comparable terrorist target existing within immediate range of MH370 should not be disregarded.

An attempt to repeat such an attack could result in the aircraft being shot down by one of several airforces in the region.

Short of actually bringing down the Petronas towers, simply causing the plane to crash could be construed as a Jihadist victory.

The only way to neutralize terrorists benefitting from such a suicide mission is to deny the event ever took place.

Hey you made the statement there's no proof. You have none either. Nice try though.

It is becoming increasingly clear to me as time goes by that something happened here that the public is not being told about. Those 'in the know' are probably too frightened to tell the world what happened. I'm not so sure it was anything odd (like UFO abduction or anything like that) but it probably relates to terrorism. It will be interesting to learn the truth, whenever it comes out, and by what ever means.

I still believe that it exactly happened like this captain described it on Google Plus a couple days after the disappearance:

plus.google.com...

Wired also added some pictures for easy readbility: www.wired.com...

Lithium fires happened before on board of aircrafts - there were over 138 incidents within the past 20 years - from Cargo fires to Laptops Batteries exploding. It's rare but it happens and there a lot of laws how Lithium batteries need to be shipped.

This plane landed - on water and it will probably take years to find it. Remember, it took over 70 years to find the Titanic.

It's true it took over 70 years to find the Titanic, but they knew the approximate location where it went down. They don't have a clue where the plane went down in the ocean, or even if in fact it's in the ocean at all.

CNN is reporting that the Malayan government will release an official report on the plane next week and they are calling it a "bizarre scenario". They also said that they already submitted the report to the United Nations. Now, is that customary to submit a report for a crashed plane to the United Nations if its an "accident"?? Or are they ready to announce something criminal?

"Najib also announced that his government will release a preliminary report next week on the plane's disappearance. The report has already been submitted to the United Nations".
