Twerking is popular because people like sex, even simulated sex.

TPTB are forcing twerking upon us as a cultural meme because they have an agenda to erode morality, encourage promiscuity, corrupt our youth, and eradicate the last vestiges of family values.

I assume from your thread that you don't really get what twerking is about, and where it comes from. It is obviously sexual and transformed into a style of "dance." I suspect it has its originals in one or two foreign lands where sex is a big commodity and was carried here by porn videos. (You can see a relationship of it to genuine belly dancing). It actually is a learned skill. The popularity in the West I'm thinking is due to the very sudden release of the female shackles from their long-bottled up sexuality. For example, look how the word "vagina" has catapulted into prominence in the last few years. And, yeah, we can blame or applaud TV for the stark reality of change in social behaviors and ideals.

The bottom line is that twerking here to stay, another area of females taking more control over their lives (bodies). That may sound insane, but not so much if you can dispassionately think about it.

Obviously wouldn't want my daughter to twerk, I'd like to think I'll educated her enough not to be slutty. But I like to watch girls twerk, of course.

While I agree to most of your post, especially that the shackles needed to come off female sexuality, I have to dispute any connection to "genuine belly dance" other than twerking being an isolation move (of which belly dance is composed) that for most dancers must be learnt.

I am a long time belly dancer and teacher, and am just being fussy as it has been a long road to travel with the general public equating belly dance to stripping, burlesque and harems. It is, rather, a cultural dance, done by men and women, that borrowed heavily from Hollywood glamour of the early part of the 20th century. It is the glamour end that causes the confusion.

I feel like I'd be caught in a catch-22 with my wife, and daughters but, yes twerking is sexy as long as the person doing it is legitimate with doing it. I do like to watch the female form in action, However (and here is my catch 22) my daughters would be put on lockdown till they are 35 if I ever caught them doing it. I say that but putting it into action is another thing entirely. I still subscribe to the attitude that I need to carry a shotgun and follow my daughters around when it comes time for them to date.
